What is a Hex code?
i am interested in buying the edge programer and i hear alot of things about it more good than bad, but never the less i think i want one. i have read that some of the newer trucks have had problems with a hex code and something about an update i'm not really sure. but either way i have an 06 FX4 and i would like to know what the hex code is where i can find it and how will i know if it will work with the edge. any help is welcome, thanx....
your pcm has a 5 digit code printed on a sticker thats on it- but when you plug in a tuner and read the strategy, it displays the hex code for the printed pcm code- if you get custom tuning like the XCal2 from Mike Troyer, he uses the hex code to create your tunes
The code is the ID of the program running your truck. There is supposed to be a label on the box inside the kick panel on the passenger side. The code is comprised of 6 letters and numbers( I think). Anyhow, if you can get your code, then check with Edge to see if they support that code. Also, do a search on the subject, should come up with more info on the codes.

You need to find your PCM. Not exactly sure where it is on the '06's. It's either on the firewall on the passenger side, or it is in the passenger side kick panel tucked up underneath the dash and to the right. You want to look for a white sticker, might have some barcodes on it. You want to look for a combo of letters and numbers, i.e. TEJF3
Then go here and look to see if your combo matches.....

Hi chubbroc11,
Actually, the hex code is SEVEN (7) digits - not 5, not 6, but 7 digits.
Unfortunately, the off-the-shelf products always just use a match on the first 5 digits at best, but we insist on a precise match of all 7 digits - that is the proper way to tune these vehicles.
Now there is also what is referred to as a "computer code", or "box code", etc., and in these late-model Fords, that is always going to be 3 letters followed by 1 number - like TEM7, or LGA2, or HUG0, etc.
But a "hex code" is 7 digits in FoMoCo vehicles.
