My TP day.

Here is the play-by-play of the big day!

I’m at work and at 4:00 pm on September 12, I receive an email that says “Your Troyer Performance tunes are attached”
Oh yea! I said...maybe even out loud!

I walk to the parking lot to get my Xcal out of my truck…OK I ran to get my Xcal out of my truck.

Walk back to office….I ran OK!!!

Plug in my Xcal to my PC, launch live load and transfer program 1 (87 tow) successfully.

Transfer program 2 (87 max perf) successfully

Start transfer of program 3 (93 max perf) and I get a serial number error. I panic…then try it again…still no success. I call Troyer Performance and Anita says, “Mike must have gotten a little happy on the keyboard. I’ll send you program 3 again.”

At 5:10pm I get another email from Troyer with program #3 attached.

Ah…success...I transferred it over to my Xcal successfully. Thanks Anita, you too Mike.

I collect all of my stuff, leave the office and head to my truck…No I did not run! I walked at a brisk pace as I had my brief case, laptop and Xcal in hand!!

I plug in the Xcal to my vehicle port and load the…..you guessed it…my 93 max perf tune. (Had anticipated getting my tunes soon so I’ve been running premium gas just for this moment)

Transfer the program successfully to my truck…damn, that takes awhile!

I fire up the truck and head out onto the hwy. There was a light rain falling. I merge onto the hwy and floor it! The tires immediately break loose and the rear end drifts over to the right. I back out just a little to straighten it up and nail it again. The truck absolutely rockets out of the hole. The sound of the engine, intake and exhaust is amazing. The truck is really moving now and it shifts into second. Holy crap! The tires break loose again with a little wiggle of the rear end and the truck continues to just roar with a sound of raw power. I had to let out of it then as I was doing about 70mph. All of these prime adjectives just start rolling out of my mouth. I just could not believe this was the same vehicle. I bow to you Mike Troyer. This is amazing.

For those who know what this feels like, I salute you. For the rest of you who are dabbling with the idea of adding some custom tunes…call Troyer right now. This is worth every dime you can throw at it.

Sounds awesome. I am looking forward to grabbing one of these myself. Sounds like a dramatic difference. I have heard from many different people with diffferent vehicles that a tune is one of the best modifications that you can do to a stock vehicle, seems to be true once again in your case as well.

Congrats and keep us updated.

nice...what intake are you running?

I'm giving serious thought to the tuner now that I have to change my wheel diameter twice a year for the new rim and tire combo I have as I can't run my 22s with the 33 inch tire during the winter in MN.

I'm wondering if that Group Buy TP talked about in the Group Buy section is going to happen again any time soon. There is a lot of interest but nobody knows TP's stance on it.

I have the AirForce1 3.25" intake and the Magnaflow SISO exhaust. All purchased from Troyer as part of the Stage 1 setup. Mike's tunes work great with these add-ons. Dyno proven results with Mark Jones tested field results to back it up.

Did you get a chance to try the 87 performance tune or will it be too hard to leave the 93 performance.

Talking

It will be way to hard to back down to the 87 tunes. I ran 87 for two tanks back in March when i got my tunes....and my truck hasn't seen 87 since then.

<~ This is the TP grin you can't wipe from any of our faces.

This 93 max perf tune is amazing, but I'll be forced to change to my 87 tow tune this weekend when I take the boat to the lake. I'm sure I will be pleased with it as well. I may end up having Mike write me a 93 tow tune to have in my hip pocket. We'll just have to see after I put them all through the paces. 57 TP miles and counting since I loaded my tunes and this sh*t eating grin of mine could polish diamonds

Same setup that I'm running minus the 93 -- I jumped back to 87 during the $3+ fuel... now that we're back around $2.25, I'm going to bump it back up I believe.

Congrats on your new tunes. They are absolutely KILLER! *salutes back*

Placed order over the phone on August 24th. Worksheets faxed in on August 25th. UPS delivered parts on August 31st. Tunes emailed to me on September 12. How's that for service!
Your results may vary as my 2005 had a PCM strategy code that could be loaded remotely into the Xcal. I think some of the older models has to be done by mailing the Xcal to the user, the user has to capture some vehicle data then mail it back for it to be programmed, then mailed back to the user.

you and I did the the reverse. When you get your 93 Tow you will be amazed how different it is than the 87 tow. I have both and I will only use the 87 tow when I run short trips with the dry TT to clean it or play...when I pull for the weekend, I move to 93. My advice. You need to set a proper expectation level in your mind before you move from 93 anything to 87. This has kept me in check. Keep telling yourself this statement. "87 is better than stock, I have more power than stock" repeat, repeat, repeat. If you say, anything else. this is what you do next. Pull over at your first chance. Put your truck back to 87 stock. Drive off for 5-10 min. Next, pull over again and put the truck back in 87 tow. You'll be happy again. Time it takes? 10 min or less.

I am buying extra tunes to keep on the hard drive, when I want to change, I just overwrite.

Enjoy..

Hi Mark,

Excellent, glad to hear you are up & running!

And sorry about the typo when I plugged in your XCal 2's serial number for Program 3 (they each get done individually, one at a time, so in theory it's possible that you could potentially have 1, 2 or all 3 right or wrong!).
Sometimes I think my fingers get ahead of my limited brain power when typing, but that is actually the first time that I can remember this happening -and it probably won't be the last!

Luckily, that was easy to fix, I just had to export it again with the right serial number and email it out to you to take care of it.

Sounds like the truck is running very nicely - it can take you by surprise, especially if you are on a slightly damp road, you can usually expect a few trips sideways on launch & gear changes at full-throttle!

Thanks for your post & have fun!
