Mike Troyer...question about your tunes?

Do you turn off the EGR system on your tunes for Lightnings? If you do not, what is your position on deleting the EGR system?

If it's going to be driven on the street, then run the EGR system - otherwise you are illegal and polluting, especially the oxides of nitrogen, which is the reason EGR is used in the first place.

So no, I do not, by default, disable EGR in any of my tunes, and will NOT do that unless I am assured by the customer that the vehicle is not going to be driven on the street at all - I don't like those $50K fines from the EPA.

Last - don't forget that EGR does NOT rob you of power, it's present only at lower rpms and light loads - any time you put the hammer down, there is no EGR and no reduction of power. And eliminating EGR will also drop your fuel mileage.

So the first thing to decide is, will the vehicle be driven on the street? If so, then plan on running EGR - if you have massively ported heads and the truck tends to buck, then we can reduce commanded EGR flow a bit to help with that, but otherwise, if it';s driven on the street, run the EGR is my advice. You can make big power and still be emissions legal.

You're very welcome, Rich - now if you noticed bucking & surging with your ported head,s then we can always bring down the amount of EGR commanded & clear that up - but we have found that is rarely a problem on those heads, just FYI.

Hi RockPick,

Yes I do, thankfully!

Speaking of tuning, I'll be getting your new tunes out to you this week (finally!), setting up the part-throttle changes as we discussed.
