chip or tuner for my 03 5.4 Which one

I just got a 03 f-150 with the 5.4 engine auto trans 3.55 gears. I have been getting arround 14 mpg running arround the house. One trip up north towing a trailer up got 12.5 mpg no trailer on the return got 15 mpg. thats running 75-80 mph. I was thinking about getting exuast intake and a chip to see if I can pick up some mileage and hp too.

If you will be pulling a trailer then I suggest you get Mikes custom tuned X-Cal2.

X2.

At the same time I put in Mike's Scally2 and an AF1 intake. With my 92 tow tune it pulls much better than it ever did stock.

Mike writes 87 tunes too. As far as mileage, most people get worse mileage right when they get their tunes because it's hard to keep the pedal off the ground. Driving the exact same, you should probably pick up a little mileage.

Hi Duane,

We can help you with this, no problem.

Most people come to us for our custom tunes as we have specialized in these vehicles for much longer than anyone else, and have a lot of R&D into their tuning & modification for better performance -

Any time you increase th engine's power, you also introduce the potential for getting better fuel economy as well - it's a matter of how hard you drive it and the quality of fuel you feed it of course, but all else being equal, most people do see some MPG gains.

Our normal procedure is to provide a set of 3 different custom tunes set up however you like, and if you desire, we can make an MPG-specific type of tune for you, to give you the best chance of getting the best MPG - that kind of tune won't have quite as much power as our pure performance tuning, and an MPG-specific type of tune is not something you would want to tow on - but it does tend to help MPG - just FYI. Also, most people do get better fuel mileage with our towing tunes compared to what they got on the stock tune, all else being equal - again, it's back to the old principle of when you increase the engine's power, it gets better mileage because it does not have to work quite as hard - providing the driver keeps their foot out of the firewall, so to speak.

I hope this brief info helps, & please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over this in proper detail, OK?

Thanks for your post & best of luck!
