edge pics up wrpong gears??
when i try to do a custom tune on my new edge unit i was just poki ng around and i looked at the gear ratio and it has mine at the default level.....but it has it set at 3.31.......my axle code is hp which meaqns that my stock gears are 3.55 limited slip. why does the edge get the wrong gear ratio???? it says do not change the gear ratio unless u have changed the gears yourself. I have not changed the gears...but even if i did wouldent the stock gears still be what showed up on the computer.....i dont know what to do...there was one owner before me, but i doubt he changed the gears from 3.55 limited slip to 3.31. do u think i should change the gear ratio on my edge to 3.55.
When you go in to make a custom tune on the Evo, the gear ratio setting it has is basically just a place holder that is there for you to manually set your actual (correct) gear ratio. If you just use the Evo "canned" tunes it will use the gear ratio which is in the VID block of the PCM. Once you choose to make a custom tune, you MUST set the correct gear ratio manually. Hope this helps explain it, that is how EDGE explaned it to me.
ok cool. so it is ok if i change the gears to where they actually are and it will not harm my vehicle?? and what does changing the gears on here actually dpo anyways?
If the truck actually does have 3.55's in it, you'd be better off changing it. If they are 3.55's and the programmer programs it for 3.31's, your speedo will be off and it will shift at goofy times.
Them 2 ratios aren't far enough apart where it would cause prolems with shifting but you may notice it.

You really should put the actual gear ratio in there. The shift points will be off otherwise. If you want to correct the speedo, do it by changing the tire size around. That way you don't jack up the shift points.

but wont the shift points be off already if the computer has the wrong gears?? because i tried to adjust tire size but it says option not available on this vehicle. So im guessing my edge needs an update. but wouldent the computer having the wrong gears be bad?? what do u think i should do?
When you go into the custom tune option the value that is displayed is not the value from the PCM. It is just a place holder and you must then manually set the gear ratio. Even if you just looked and did not change anything else in the custom options. If you just use the standard tune then the Evo uses what is stored in the PCM in the Vehicle ID block. This is what gear ratio was put in the PCM at the time the truck was built. Has the rear differential been changed? Why do you think the gear ratio is wrong?

as ive said more than enough times in both this forum and ford truck world, the speedo calibration feature is problematic/innacurate; and is being worked on. the tuner is in very good shape but some features are not polished, these are problems you WILL be encountering in an unfinished product.

Unfortunately the speedo in these Fords is off 1-3 mph from the factory. So you can have the odometer accurate, or the speed accurate. But not both.
any of yall GPS verify the speeds with one of hte evolution screens set as MPH?
unless you have stock size tires or they have released another update it will not read speed right. with stock tires, yes changing to your proper gear ratio will make it read right
