Custom Edge Tune - Level 3 - 907 miles - 19.05 MPG

2002 Ford F150 4.6 4x2 Supercrew

Loaded a custom tune with 2 degrees advance and level 3, 93 octane Sunoco gas. Total miles were 906.7 ( highway 800 + city 106.7 approx) , total gallons used 47.58 with MPG of 19.05. Most of the highway was done with the cruise control on and a speed of 72 - 75 mph.

No issues to report, Edge work just fine. not bad mileage considering the speed and the Edge AMPG was pretty close as I only reset it when we got home. The Edge AMPG reading was at 18.4 when we arrived home.

I think i will bump the timing a bit more.

Anyone running more than the plus 2 ?

I would be careful running to high of timeing. It says you can move the timing up one degree for every 2 octane changes. Level three is for 91 octane and I run 93 so I bump up the timing 1 degree. I run level 2 now with +3 degrees timing for 93 octane. give it a try, but just be careful so as to not hurt the engine.

Do you know if the 2002 F150 has a knock sensor ?

What effect will it have if the timing is excessive ? Hear a knock or ping ? Engine Temp will rise ?

There was a post on here somewhere a guy was running +3 on level three. There were alot of good replys in there as to what can happen. I do know that you can get pinging (thats bad). Now how far can you go I don't know.
I don't know if it has a knock sensor. Maybe someone with alittle more technical knowlege will jump in. I juast know edge says not to go over 1+ degree for 2 octane changes. Now I read some where that elevation plays a part, I would do some more looking into that.

Lost Pup,

How do you reset the AMPG? I clicked around for awhile and could not find it.

I am running level 3 as shipped, 93 octane Phillips 66, no extra advance at this time. Will try the additional advance after I see what it does like this. Rob told me to run 1 degree for increase of 2 octane.

Only about 2 tanks of gas since put Edge on level 3. One fillup calculated 15.6 and Edge showed 15.1 ampg. Second fillup calculated 16.1 and Edge (without resetting) showed 15.3 ampg. These numbers are more than 1 MPG over what I normally calculate. At first glance seems like an improvement over stock, but this is only about 2 tanks of gas. Need a longer term test to be sure.

I am much more interested in gas mileage than performance. Will the extra timing advance help gas mileage much? Or is it mostly for HP?

Thanks,
Randy

Press the enter button from the main screen and it will ask if you want to reset the AMPG.
