Deisel,

I have an 04 F150 4.6...... I just recently purchased a 1714 SuperChips Micro Tuner off of Ebay for 150.00. I have to say compared to stock the Programmer works wonders. I have noticed about a 1sec difference between the stock tune, and 91+ High Performance Tune out at the local drag strip. You can really tell a difference between that and stock. It allows you to set shift points, tire size, shift pressure, rev limiter, speed limiter, and gear size. I am MORE THAN HAPPY with this tuner.....BUT.... I have only heard great things about the "edge" and "Xcal2". If you search and look around, the going thing now is the Xcal2, with some custom tunes from Mike Troyer. Not sure of the webpage, but be sure to chk that out. If you want the most bang for the buck..... I'd chk Ebay for a 1714/1715 depending on the motor you have and see about finding a "used" SuperChips Micro Tuner.... just make sure you ask the seller if it's been returned to stock and is no longer Vin locked. Once you use that tuner it prog. it'self to you VIN Number and until you return the truck to stock it'll stay prog. to your truck only. Hope this helps you out..... once you get a programmer you'll wish you had done it sooner...... I get out and drive mine now just cause of the thrill it gives to run it.... AMAZING difference compared to stock!

I have a custom tuned XCal2 and it’s been the best performance mod I ever did. It met and exceeded all my expectations; made my truck fun to drive

I went with the Edge for the gauges, but the performance is great.

I almost bought a used 1714 off ebay...but after looking around, there is some potential issues with that...Superchips will only help the original owner with original recept...something to consider.

Not 15 min ago, I ordered my Xcal2 from Troyer. I spent 1 solid week reviewing all the posts and hands down, it goes to Troyer customer tunes.

Now the only down side is you have to wait for them...is it worth it? According to others it is...so I am willing to sit it out to get the best out of my truck. Having others with real world experience does wonders for your decision making process.

I being the newbie here will also vouch for Troyer. Bought the edge, found a buyer for it and went with the TP with the AF1 3.25" Just waiting for a magic "you've got mail"

Hi deisel88,

Your complaints are the most common complaints of all 2004 & newer F-150 owners - the inherent lack of throttle response, transmission shifting, etc.

The difference our custom tuning will make to that 2004 truck will wake it up very nicely and address your concerns - the throttle response will be much improved, as will overall power, performance, and the transmission shift characteristics - as well as many other aspects of day in-day out overall driveability - it just feels the way it should have come from the factory, with much more responsiveness and willingness to do what you ask it to do.

You can see that here in the posts from our customers, they rave about the difference our custom tuning makes.

And yes, there are also some standard "off the shelf" products that also make some people happy, and we carry those, too - the Superchips unit, the Edge unit, and so on, we carry all of that as well.

It's a matter of if you want the best - and owning a 2004-2006 F-150, you're better off having us do our own thorough tuning - it's a noticeable difference between what we do in our custom tuning versus any off the shelf device, as we go much further into the PCM's programming, and have far more R&D into this platform than any other chipmaker, as we have specialized in F-150 performance tuning & modification for 15 years, longer than anyone else - it's what we do basically, eat, sleep & breathe F-series - so we're the "nuts" that make these 2-ton+ trucks run much better, quicker, faster, and give you the driveability and responsiveness the vehicle is actually capable of.

And this can all easily be done without sacrificing any of the vehicle's durability or service life, so that is not a problem - but it's a great question to ask!

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below & we can go over all of that with you in appropriate detail.

Thanks for your post, & best of luck with your truck!
