Xcal I VS Xcal II
HI Breaker,
The is no inherent difference in terms of the actual *tuning* inside either unit, but the XCalibrator 2 is by far the unit to have, due to it's many features that the XCal 1 is never going to be capable of, given that it's a discontinued unit - and the list of additional featurs of the XCal 1 is very lengthy, from diagnostics to datalogging to downloadable updates to firmware and much, much more.
And yes, most of our customers do see some mpg gains from our Troyer Performance custom tuning - that is, once they get over the novelty of a new go-fast part and their driving returns back to normal -a lot of people drive these vehicles harder when they first get our tuning, checking out the new performance levels - and that will of course cause fuel mileage to drop.
Speaking of which, there are only 2 ways that you will get WORSE mpg with our tuning and they are, using a lower energy content fuel, and driving it harder - all else being equal. The way it works is very simple - any time you increase and engine's power, you also improve the *potential* for getting better fuel mileage as well, as the engine does not have to work as hard, all else being equal - the only time you do not see mpg gains is when you drive the vehicle harder using more power, or use lower quality (lower BTU content) fuels.
Stock or modified, you always want to use the best quality fuels, as they delivery the best mileage, performance, and best detergency.
This is just some general FYI info & I hope it helps - please feel free to call us for more details on any of this, & best of luck!
