2004 4.6l Stx
A tuner would be the best gains. You can do an edge evolution or xcal II. Both have proven gains on these trucks. Also efans would give you some. The list gose on and on as to what you can do. However a tuner would be the first step.
Just call Mike up there at Troyer Performance. I'll tell you right off the bat though, he is gonna tell you that the XCal2 with his custom tuning is the number 1 bang for the buck mod you can do.
While the 4.6L is not as powerful as its big brother (the 5.4)....there is much to be gained without dropping a boatload of cash into this thing. The mods i have done on my truck (check my signature) were all completed/installed for about $1300 in total. The combination of these really "woke up" my truck. Good luck to ya.

I recommend custom tuning via the XCal2. It will drastically improve the drivability of your truck and you’ll get the biggest safe & sustainable hp & torque gain * It’s the biggest bang for the buck mod you can do

Hi.
You did say the quickest, right?
1. Go to Ford dealer.
2. Find a truck with a 5.4l 3V & a 3.73 or 4.10 in it.
3. Trade.
Otherwise - order an Xcal2 (or a Stage 1, 2 or higher) and be prepared to wait a bit.
Cheers

It also depends on the amount of money that you want to spend. The xcal II is a great option however you need to get it dataloged on dyno to get most out the custom tuning ($$). The edge is an economical way to go and you get some gauges with it. Altough you can change some perameters it is not custom to your truck.
For me, the XCal II was the way to go. I also bought the Air Force 1 intake which I love/recommend.
I raced and held my own vs. a 5.4L SCab XLT so I am definately glad of the purchase.
Either Edge/XCal II will do a lot for you, I am kinda partial so my vote goes for the latter.

HI messiah,
Well, we suggest going in the order of best bang for the buck - that gets you the larger gains for the least cost, and generally does it the quickest.
It is true that our custom tuning is going to be your best bet there, as we specialize in these vehicles and assist other chipmakers in their products as a result of our expertise on these trucks, so I would suggest starting of there.
The order of bang for the buck is basically to do the tuning, and then a good air intake kit (AF!), and then a quality cat-back exhaust system. In fact, we have a Stage 1 kit that includes all of that at the lowest total delivered cost, if your budget can swing doing more than one mod at a time.
What I would suggest is giving us a call at our number ;listed below so we can properly advise you, and then you can give that some thought before making your decision. We have specialized in modifying these F-series trucks longer than anyone else, about 15 years now, which is why so many people come to us for these services, so you'll be in good hands.
I hope this brief info helps, and best of luck whatever you decide!
