Edge and no snorkle!

I found this post from Bill when the Edge first came out. All of his dyno testing for the Edge was without the snorkle (air intake piece that goes into the fender). I removed it and can feel more low end pull. It pops off with ease and can be put back on. To me it is worth removing.

Bill says you gain 5hp....

What exactly is the "snorkle"? Anyone have a pic of it?

Not a good idea. In real world testing (my truck with an Evo II), my IAC got up over 150* in stop and go traffic. On the freeway, my IAC was running 20*+ higher than ambient. Hotter air, less power. Their testing was on the dyno with the hood open. Run a 3" duct from your air box to the hole in the fender - no restriction from the snorkle, AND you get the cooler air.

I'd like to figure out how to pop off the snorkel. Popping it out of the fender is no problem, but seperating the last piece of the intake from the rest hasn't happened for me. I'm just trying to get it to fit in a box for storage.

Twist and pull off....only one tab at the bottom. Take a small mirror to see the tab. The tab is on the outer edge on the left side on the bottom in this picture.

A question...

Why would you test it that way knowing that 99% of the users wouldn't actually use that configuration?

BTW, that's an honest question -- not meant to be pointed, derogatory, or anything else negative...

I agree. No way I would run mine with out the snorkle. Too much heat and too much sand under the hood. I wipe everything off weekly and it amazes me how much sand and grit collects on the snorkle. I realize that there is probably the same stuff going in the snorkle, and I realize that is what the filter is for, but it is psycological, if I don't see it, maybe it was not there.

Honest answer - all manufacturers of aftermarket performance products do everything they can to get maximum HP numbers when dynoing their products.

I tried this and my Edge read only 15* higher in stop and go traffic. Once I was on the open road the temp. went down to the ambient. There is alot more openings in these newer trucks than the older models so in turn there is alot more outside air being introduced under the hood to be used by CAI.

Also when you run on a dyno you are more likely to be introduced to warmer air even with a fan blowing in the open hood. There may be more power there on the road than on the dyno.

I thought you were going to say something about that dirty snorkel being on the seat.
