91 vs 93 octane

I just placed a order for a excal2 about 4 days ago. I went with 87 tow,87 performance, and 91 tow. The last four days I have been checking the gas pumps in my area. I have found that most pumps have 93 octane! Is there a big difference between the 91 octane tow and the 93 tow. If there is a big difference do you think that it is to late to change my mind? I use this truck to tow my 30 foot trailer most of the time.
Thank You.

If your towing with the truck most of the time stick with the maps you ordered. The only thing you could think to change would be the 87 Performance map to the 91+ Performance map.

The 91+ map is for any fuel 91 octane or above...you'll be okay running 93 octane...

The 91 maps have the timing advanced to a point where they need high octane fuel to stop detonation...the higher the octane the better resistance to detonation...

Yeah, but you *might* see a performance decrease by using the higher octane.

Only on a dyno...you'll never notice the 2 hp loss on the street...but your engine will be protected though...

Hi vze32nmi,

If you have 93 octane available, then I do recommend calling us to have us make that change (which we're happy to do as long as the tuning is not done yet, and it won't be if you just ordered very recently), as it's always best to be tuned for the level of octane actually being used.

Now if you run 93 octane on that 91 octane tune, nothing bad will happen - you just won't get *quite* as much performance as you would if we had specifically tuned it for the 93 that is actually available.

Also - if you want us to change that to a 93 octane tune, another thing you could do if you like, is to order another *extra* tune from us for 91 octane, and save it on your hard drive - just in case you ever actually needed it, and you can just swap them back and forth if needed.
