Edge Evo?????????

OK GUYS HERE'S MY QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU GUYS REALLY THINK OF THIS PROGRAMMER?
I HAVE BEEN READING UP ON IT, AND BY THE SOUNDS OF IT IT'S REALLY SUPPOSED TO BE GREAT. BUT I HAVE ALSO BEEN READING OF CERTAIN COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ADRESSED YET BY THE MANUFACTURER. THANKS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK.

I love mine. I have had on this truck the Hypertech Power Programer and the Superchips Flashpaq and I much prefer the Edge. I don't have any experience with the Xcal2, but of the three that I have had, this seems to give me the best SOTP power and I haven't had any of the shift/jerk/null issues mentioned.

When I purchased my Superchips 1714, I also had the Edge as an option. The dealer had both in stock. I liked the gains that the Edge claimed to offer but I was not totally sold on leaving that programmer plugged into the truck all the time. I dont like alot of gadgets on the dash so having that there was not very desirable. I liked the idea of the Superchips handheld. I have not experienced any issues with the Superchips and its nice to know that my PCM is running an upgraded map and not constantly looking for info from the Edge unit. People with defective Edge units have experienced strange drivability problems.

You do not have to keep the Edge unit plugged in if you don't want to. It does not "constantly look for info from the Edge unit". It loads the program similar to the other tuners, it just has the guage options for monitoring and few other cool things.

I will have to disagree with this statment. The PCM dose not consantly look at the edge for info. After you write the tune to the PCM it dose not look back to the edge. The edge dose allow you to monitro a number of output from the PCM.

I don't think the problem is defective edge tuner, more like it is the hex code of the PCM that they have. I personaly have not had any issuse with my tuner. I have run level 2 and 3 for a couple of months with no problems.

Also you do not have to leave the tuner plugged in. You can remove it after you tune the PCM. I leave mine in so I can monitor trans temp, average mpg, and two ofter variables.

The only thing about the edge is the amount of custom that you can do is very limited. If you went with the xcal 2 you have to get someone to tune it for you after you datalog it on a dyno ( or similar ).

I’ve used a custom tuned XCal ever since I got my 04 Screw and it hasn’t let me down yet. My best ET at Orlando Speed World is 15.13 @ 96.7

I never tried an Edge so I can’t say one way or the other about them

The Edge is a great unit, Makes a big difference in drivability. You dont need to keep it plugged in. The guages are great. Its plug and play. I definitly recommend it. Great customer service also. I had a Diablo on another car I had and I had some problems and there sevice sucks. No real gains on there product either.

See, I asked the dealer if I had to keep the Edge in the truck at all times and he said yes. Thats my fault for not doing more research I guess. If I could do it all over again, knowing what I know now Id go with the edge. Set it and forget it.

The Edge is a great programer. I've had it for about a month, running the level 3 performance tune and it is incredible. Awesome power gains. A very noticable difference.

Does every Edge come with the monitor? I have an XCal2 but am thinking of buying a used Edge just to get the monitoring capability; like the auto trans temp etc. It seems to me that I can monitor quite a few things with an Edge and it would be cheaper than buying Autometer gauges and mounting them in the windshield pillar etc. What do you guys think?

Yes, the monitoring capabilities are built into the Edge. For more information, see the product instructions: http://www.edgeproducts.com/pdf/inst...structions.pdf Of course, if you get the Edge, you'll have to give the tunes a try, too...

Thanks for the info. It WOULD be interesting to compare the Edge to the Xcal.

It has been done and beat to death. There are a bunch of threads on this subject if you search for them.

One word - awesome! Plugged it in and in less than 5 minutes I was up and running with a new PCM program, complete with a customized display of engine temp, trans temp, battery voltage, and avg mpg.

Very easy mod and the responsiveness of the truck has improved 100%. Heck, I would have paid the $$$ just for the additional gauges. The tuning aspect is just icing on the cake.
