Help pick a tuner...

I did a 2" AS and just put on a set of toyo ATs 285-70-17.I have an xcal1 that has been a real pain.It makes the truck ping big time under a load no matter the tune or grade of gas.So any way I need a new/better tuner.I need to adjust for the new tire size to fix the speedo.I have a 4.6 2005 4x4 Sup cab so I want a crazy amount of low end.The truck is fine on the highway but off the line it stinks.I have a flowmaster catback,K&N drop in with the silencer removed and the xcal1.I am open to any and all ideas as to how I can get some low end grunt and what tuner will provide the best result on the 4.6.

Since your Xcal1 is a custom tune and I think an Edge is a generic, I think you will be sorry. Just look for someone to better custom tune your truck and fix ur pinging. If you can afford it, get an Xcal2, theres a great tuner here as well as many others. Ive heard the best way to go is find a local custom tuner so you can datalog it and get exactly what you are looking for right there on the spot. My 2 cents

Hi Bronkx1,

Actually, your XCal 1 can still be used (or we can take it in trade towards the more modern XCalibrator 2) - there is nothing wrong with it if it uploads tunes to your vehicle correctly - it sounds like it simply needs to have some appropriate tuning changes made.

Now I have no idea what is happening in your case, but maybe your tuner tried to accommodate your wishes and cranked in too much spark - or you are using poor quality fuel - or maybe your 4.6 is one of the many newer 4.6 F-150's that simply runs too lean from the factory to begin with, and *any* tuning changes added without correcting the A/F's pushes it over the edge, especially with the increased load you have put it under - heck, there are any number of possibilities!

If you want this taken care of properly, you can give us a call at our number listed below - we do not guess at tuning, we provide a set of baseline tunes as well as very simple instructions for you to get some data and send to us, and we then determine if any adjustments to our original tunes need to be done, ands if so,m provide them to you. It's a straightforward process that we have been doing longer than anyone else for these vehicles, having specialized in F-150 tuning for the better part of 15 years now - and this is what most people here who are looking for the best tuning do.

So if you'd like some help with this, along with some realistic advice as to what is and is not possible with your setup, and what other mods would help you accomplish your goals, please feel free to give us a call and we'll be happy to help.

Best of luck whatever you decide!
