Take a look at an Xcal2.

I have one on my 06 Lariat and LOVE it!

Since you already went with the airaid cai, then go with a Troyer custom tune xcal2. Magnaflow catback exhaust system will give it good sound too.

Hi jpaints,

Congratulations on your new F-150!

And don't worry, it's performance can *significantly* be upgraded with your budget - we offer all kinds of performance packages, and can do custom version of our performance packages for those who already have certain parts, like in your case, for example, since you already have the Airaid intake kit.

So don't despair, your F-150 can easily be made to have far better throttle response & performance, starting with our custom tuning added to a few other parts from one of our performance packages to meet your budget needs, no problem - and you'll be very happy with the results.

We know how you feel - yours is the single most often heard complaint about the new 2004 & up F-150's - the lack of throttle response & performance - but that is easily cured, and you can soon be enjoying far better performance as well as much better overall driveability than what you are experiencing right now - just give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help you with this.

Thanks for your post & enjoy your new truck!

Use the tuner to clear the codes theen return the truck to the stock program before trying to drive it.

The Hypertech's seem to have problems for '06 F150's. That was the first tuner I tried and I ended up going through 3 of them all constatnly throwing codes and repeatedly putting the truck into the failsafe mode. The dealer took it back because of all the problems and Hypertech does have a model version for '06 trucks but even that didn't work for me. Next up was a Flashpaq 1815, it just didn't do it for me and half of the features listed for the FlashPaq aren't yet available or activated. I ended up getting an Edge Evolution and am very happy with it. Many here say the Troyer Performance tuned Xcalibrator-2 is the bee's knee's. I have no hands on experience wth this tuner but Mr. Troyer has already replied in this thread he is very knowledgeable and friendly. Those would be the only 2 tuners I would recomend, the Edge and X-Cal2 for the '06's. Sad because I had a Hypertech on my '98 and was very happy with it.

As for performance, I have added a Magnaflow 16612 SI/SO exhaust, an Airraid CAI, the above mentioned Edge Evolution and Flex-A-Lite electric fans and replaced my serpentine belt with a Gatorback back to get rid of the annoying belt squeak. The performance gains are very noticable as is the improvement in overall drivability. I feel pretty comfy in stating I could smoke a Suburban, lol.

You have a great truck in the KR, welcome to the forum and best of luck. Cheers.

First off, check the version code sticker on the back, that was what was first happening to me, as it was for '04-'05. I have no idea what changed besides VIN numbers but it ws a problem. Second, is the check engine light on currently and is it in Engine Failsafe Mode still? That is a limp home mode stating something is enough off the mark that it could damage the truck if run for a distance and/or speed. I personally wouldn't try to either run it far or take it to the dealer as they would ask if you did anything to the PCM and if code is in there your warranty is toast. Too risky for my blood. Hypertech is in Tennessee and they will probably ask a couple quick questions like is there anything including an alarm on your truck that wasn't theere from the factory. My truck had a dealer installed alarm put on it (Ford doesn't make alarms, just auto door lock/unlock, so if you have an alarm it was put on by the dealership or you). They will then tell you to turn it off from the powersource, meaning to pull the fuse for the alarm (have fun finding it as I had no idea and had to trace it from the brain to see where they tapped ito for a hot wire). Then they will tell you to try it again. That is the first layer you will go through. You could try this all tonight. It's a slow programmer and they also state to not have anything on (light, radio, a/c) and just to placate them I went there way and read a book with a flashlight. Beyond that they had me try a few things, none of which worked for me. When I was trying this it stalled out after I had selected my options and was in the reprograming stage. At this point the PCM had already been somewhat reprogrammed. If you go from the begining it should ask you to read/clear the DTC's, do that, then where you can select options/tuning level (if I remember correctly) you can select to return the truck to stock, select that and see if your Check Engine Light stays off and it is no longer in the Engine Failsafe mode (do a trip around the block a couple/few times giving the gas a goose now and then). Also, you could make sure to look at the Mass Airflow sensor cables are tight on your Airaid and that the shop put the O2 sensors back in properly after they installed the exhaust. If they are loose/unplugged it could be that your engine is reading lean from that.

I hope you mean you fired it up not fried it up lol. I'd still recommend a tuner, best mod bar none for me, but like I said, go with the Edge evo or the Xcal2. Once its in and running right you wo't ever want to drive without it.

You have to select to add your sig at the bottom of the post under additional options. After awhile it becomes second nature.

So, how do you lke the Edge?
