4.6L with XCal II vs. stock 5.4L

Finally had a "accurate" race against a '05 XLT 5.4L SCab. My buddy who's a plumber just got one for his business. He seen my AF1 and XCal II and said he'd still whoop me.

So we line up and from about 7-10 MPH punch it, and I pull slightly ahead (about a hood's lenght) whilst in first gear. It hits second gear (superb shifting) and again I pull slightly ahead (about mid door) then about at 70 MPH he creeps up to even at about 85 MPH then I go into third he is ahead of me by about a foot! Then we let off....

He tells ME "you gotta get more toys", LMFAO! He has the towing package so I think (I will check) he has 3.73s....he shoulda got me off the line and for about 2-1/2 to 3 blocks I was ahead! He is the one who needs the "toys" I think. I'm not sure for how long (distance) we raced, but I'm pretty sure it was a little over a quater mile.

I was a little surprised as he had a *little* more top-end where I was expecting him to take the lead and I play catch up until those speeds.

Money well spent

I am not sure because I haven't dyno'd...but I would say the XCal II & Air Force 1 CAI added around 30HP. I think that is a *low* estimate though.

Smoked? Wow. Must've been a fast truck. I was just happy that I didn't get smoked!

From this part of the forum, right here Many, many thanks to the people at Troyer Performace! I just did my homework, listened to the countless others that had great reviews of their products, and tried 'em out myself.

You can go to troyerperformace.com or wait until Superchips_Distibuter (Mike Troyer) chimes in, and you'll get all the info you'll ever need. Or you can try the SEARCH button (have to be logged in) and look up XCal and/or Air Force 1. Enough reading there to keep you at your keyboard for hours.

You will not be dissappointed.

strange compitition

Not to be a spoil sport, but I never understand why we keep wanting to race 5500 pound tucks. . Now that I have gotten down off my soap box. why don't we line up against the guy in the other truck and see who can haul the most cargo or pull the most weight.

Sounds like your 02 needs some help in the power department if you lost to a Chevy 5.3l. Is it stock? Because my buddy has an 01 Silverado identical to my Ford with the 5.3 and my truck has way more power.

Hi 05f150 4.6

We can help you with that - we're the people that "beowolf" was talking about in his post. We tuned his & many other trucks here, most of them in fact.

We've specialized in F-150 performance tuning longer than anyone else, and you'll find many people here who are very happy with what we have done for them - for example, we typically give the 4.6's as much RWHP as a stock 5.4 3V, though the 5.4 3V will still win out in torque if we do "just" a tune and an intake kit, like beowolf has - which is why he was able to stay ahead of that 5.4 3V until 85 mph, which is a great result.

Just give us a quick call at our number listed below & we'll be more than happy to help you with this, OK?

Thanks for your post, & good luck with your truck!

Hey beowolf,

Wow, congratulations on staying ahead of that 5.4 truck until about 85 mph, that's quite a feat for your truck!

Our last Dyno Day event we had some 4.6's here, and their owners saw that once we tune them, they have as much horsepower at the rear wheels as a stock 5.4 3V F-150 does - now the 5.4 3V still has the edge in torque, but in terms of RWHP, we even them out quite nicely, so it's not unusual for a truck like yours to stay ahead of a 5.4 truck up to those speeds - and yes, at 85 mph, you raced him for a good 1.4 mile, I'd guess - nice job!

Well this all sounds great! I have a 04 F-150 with the 4.6. But how much does this xcal 2 and AF1 cost? and how does the tuner work?

HA!! Awesome!! I get to the dyno next Thursday... We'll see how I do!
Mike T., On that dyno part, best to just go in with the tune loaded, or go in stock, run it a time or 2, then load the tune up????

Maybe this fall I get the AF1. Gonna get some interior toys next...

I knew that the tune gave me some extra HP, but I was still thinking that he'd get me the whole way. I couldn't be happier with my past purchases....gotta save up for some future purchases!

Thanks for the post, Mike.

Now you'd be a different story since you have the XCal II!

I can't wait to see your dyno results if you post 'em. I'm gonna get dyno'd within a month, I think, so let me know what you did. I'll prolly go up to the dyno where you are going to since I haven't found one in Lincoln yet (haven't really looked too hard though )

I assume this "race" took place at a racing facility and not on public roads, right? After all, we all know that street racing is illegal, dangerous and stupid and no one, especially a father, would ever participate in such a moronic act, right?
