Asking if it is worth it????
I have a 2000 F150 Supercrew 4X4 5.4L. I am considering the following mods.
AF1 intake, MAF, Efans, throttle body spacer and Troyers XL2 program. I have a magnaflow single catback ( that I love
) and I am considering getting rid of the cats and going to dual exhaust. I am putting on 16X10 eagles with Nitto's I think, I haven't made up my mind between the Nitto ATs and BFG's.
The Question is about the engine milage. It has 126,000 on it right now. I maintain the truck very good with regular oil and fluid changes. I just wanted to know if the motor will handle the upgrades with so many miles on it?
Thanks for any and all input.
Mark

Hi Mark,
The MAF meter & throttle body spacer I would skip - you don't need either one. On these vehicles, there really is no plenum volume to increase with their intake manifold design, so the throttle body spacer really does not offer you anything, though it *can* do some good on older GM's & some Mopars that use the older TBI type of fuel injection.
Now the Magnaflow exhaust you already have is great, excellent decision there. The AF1 intake & our tuning and the E-fans will all do a very nice job of waking that truck up significantly. Now at that point, you will be making enough power to just about max out the stock 19# injectors, so I would also suggest upgrading to 24# units since you have the number of miles on your vehicle that you do, which we carry in stock as well, and will need to incorporate into the custom tuning, which we can do no problem. At your mileage, the stock injectors are probably not emitting a very good spray pattern anyway, so you usually see a nice improvement in idle quality as well, and you will also have enough additional fuel injector capacity to support other mods in the future too, if you decide to take it any further after those mods.
With regard to the MAF meter, with the other mods you are doing and the fact that it will put you up to a power level where you will benefit from dropping in a set of 24# injectors anyway, then upgrading to the 90mm Ford MAF will get you another 8-10 HP as well, and it's a lot cheaper than aftermarket MAF meters like Granatelli, etc. Now that is not necessary, that would be viewed as optional - but would get you some more power if you wanted to do so.
If you get a chance, give us a call & we can go over this with you in proper detail, and let you know what everything will do, and get you a nice package price on everything so that you get the best deal on everything, etc.
Last - at your mileage, no, it's not too late to start doing performance modifications - you just want to make sure that your maintenance is up to snuff and that the engine is basically healthy, not using or leaking a significant amount of oil, etc. - you know, the basics.
Normal service life on these Ford modular motors is about 200K miles with routine 300 miles oil changes, and many people see more than that.
I hope that info helps, & we look forward to hearing from you & hopefully working with you - good luck with your truck!
