What's in (or would be) your PERFECT tuner??

Hi all. I reckon you guys have noticed I am in the process of deciding which tuner to purchase. Anyway... my perfect tuner would have three (3) tunes...

1. 87 octane... maximum economy and gas mileage... from time to time I have to use my personal vehicle on business trips and on these occasions i get reimbursed for mileage at the current rate... sooo...

2. 87 octane maximum performance with tow capability... yeah I know, 87 octane maximum performance is a pit of an oxymoron!!.... this tune would be loaded 90% of the time... gas prices = 87 octane, bass boat = tow capability, maximum performance = wouldn't you??

3. 93 octane maximum performance (no tow)... when I wanna play it will be there!!

Will Troyer tuners give you more than 1 tune? Is there something out there other than Troyer or EDGE that I should consider?

THANKS ALL!!!!

I dont own one but am also looking for about the same setup and I believe Troy can give that setup with his custom tuning. From what I can gather they can preset it to the exact style of driving you are looking for.

I have the following 3 tunes

87 Performance
87 Tow
93 Performance

Loaded the 87P for a tank and now have the 93P. I like them both and will probably stay on the 93P. 0.20 per gallon doesn't make that much difference when you are paying 3.10 anyhow.

My biggest thing is having to tow in an unexpected situation and loading the 87 tow with 93 in the tank....yuck...bad performance..I'd think I'd go back to stock and tow that way

I got a Troyer Performance tuned XCal2 and I’m extremely satisfied with the overall performance. I’ve been running the tunes for over a year now without incident.

I got a 93-octane performance, 93-octane tow and an 87-octane performance.

Rarely do I drop down to 87-octane anymore because 93-octane is a huge difference in performance and fuel economy. I average approximately 16mpg mixed driving and that’s jumping on it when I want, not granny driving

Like jpdade I have a 93 performance and tow and a 87 performance. My thought patern was if I wanted to tow with 87 I'd just go back to the stock program. Really you have 4 programs when all said and done even though we all hate stock. Good luck with what ever you choose, they're all GUD.

I'm right in line with these guys....I've got the 87 perf, 93 tow, and 93 perf....assuming that i can use the stock as an 87 tow. I'm running the 93 perf right now and the difference in my truck (mind you, I am in the elite 4.6L club) is night and day. In town I am averaging mid-16 mpg, and on the highway, anywhere from 19-21 mpg with an average cruising speed of 80 mph. No granny drivin for this guy.

I fail to see how burning a higher quality gas on a lower performance tune is going to make any difference whatsoever. If you try and run 93 performance tune on 87, then yeah, that'd be crap. But the other way around, there'd be no effect at all. It'd be just like running 93 octane in a 95 chevy cavalier that requires 87, no difference.

As for the three tunes, I went performance to the max

93 bad gas
93 performance
93 high performance

and you can guess which one I run daily

98navi,

I'm with you. I can't take a chance on burning anything but 93 with performance tuning. I might find a Dodge hemi that wants to get beat by a 4.6. I've got to be ready.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not sure. I'm just going off what Troyer told me.

87 Tow with 93 octane is bad for performance
