FTSP and Xcal2

I'd really like to add a FTSP to my transmission, but I have a few questions first.

There are alot of different transmission mods out there. First off, I dont want to spend ALOT of money on somthing, but I DO want some firmer shifts without sacrificing my transmission longevity.

Will a Seperator Plate give me firmer shifts along with helping put LESS strain on my trans?

I understand that having faster shifts puts less strain on the trans because there isnt as much heat buildup from the slow, slushbox shifts.

What does the plate actually do? Increase the ammount of fluid that travels to the clutches allowing for firmer shifts via shift springs?

Lastly.. And this question is mostly geard toward MIKE TROYER, What do I do as far as tuning goes? I already have an XCAL2 tuned by you. Will I need to send it back to you for re-programming to decrease line pressure... or can I do it myself (with a little coaching).

Thanks to anyone who can answer some of my questions.

I put an ArtCarr shift kit in my Mustang and wow was it aggressive (actually too much to tell you the truth as it was still my daily driver).

The transmission didnt last any longer than the first one....but than again I was alot harder on it once I saw the results of a WOT shift...

You might be best just calling Troyer directly...advice here can range, better to get it from the horse's mouth.

I would call, but I know he is extremely busy. He drops by this site frequently enough that I figure he could drop a few lines to help clear thing up.

My thing is, I dont want the shifts to be HARSH, but firmer than they are now would be nice.

Hi Keith,

The separator plate will allow the tranny to fill the oncoming clutches quicker, so if you like, we can provide you with that part.

However, it really isn't necessary, as these 4R75-E's can be made to shift plenty hard thru programming alone - they are not like the older 4R70W's, which were handicapped by not being capable of generating enough sheer line pressure or flowing enough fluid volume to get the job done, to fill the oncoming clutch quick enough.

So you can get hard enough shifts by having us send you the separator plate, but my suggestion would be to simply do it thru electronic means, and this is primarily due to the ETC system and it's potential effects of certain types of mechanical modifications.

I do NOT advise setting up that tranny so that it bangs the gears all the time - that simply is not appropriate, and will lead to situations in which you really bang the drum inside the tranny too hard - like on 4-2 shifts, for example - so just speaking personally, I prefer to handle this thru electronic means on these 4R75-E's, because we have full control over that.

So it can be done either way, it's up to you.
