Edge Tuner can I use 87 tow setting with 91 octane fuel?

Hey everyone,

I just received my Edge Evolution and just have a quick question. I know that we are not supposed to use the level 3 program with less than 91 octane even though I think others have done it before with no problems. However my question is the opposite. I want to use the 91 octane gas and level 3 performance, but I tow my boat very often this time of year and would most likely use the level (2) 87 octane setting for towing so not to do any damage. If I already have 91 octane in my truck can I still program for the level (2) 87 octane program.

I would appreciate any and all input on this matter.

Thank you
Jason

I don't own an edge but from what I have gathered, running high actane with a low octane tune is not a big deal. People do it all the time when they fuel up on high octane thinking it boosts performance. From what I understand, it basically just wastes gas. The opposite is a problem because the timing is advanced in a high octane tune and using low octane fuel can cause detonation.

Yes, but I would bump the timing up 1.5 - 2 to take advantage of the 91 octane.

Jason -

MosineeFX4 is right on the money. I've used the #2 tow tune with 93 octane before. If you use 91 octane bump up timing to +2. If you use 93 bump up timing to +3.

Basically for every 2 points increase in octane bump up timing +1.
