Should I flash before getting the Xcal programming?
Should I flash before getting the Xcal programming?
I got a call yesterday that my Xcal was shipping but due to the computer code I would have to confirm the programming and then they will email me the programming. I'm perfectly happy waiting to get it right.
Apparently my code is prone to flashing from the factory or something. Should I get it flashed before getting the new programming?
Thx for the .02....
Its getting close and I'm getting excited.

Assuming you are getting your X-cal2 in order to read strategy before your tunes are written and sent to you, it will be just fine for you to have your truck reflased to the latest "Ford" programming by the dealer. HOWEVER, once you have read and sent the strategy code to your tuner dealer, you DO NOT want any reflashing done by anyone....
Hey vader716,
Hang on a second here -
NO, I DO NOT RECOMMEND having it flashed to some different factory program just because we wanted to see if it already HAS been reflashed. Absolutely NOT. If we had wanted that to be done, we would have asked you to do that. There is absolutely no need for it to be taken to a dealer to be reflashed - none whatsoever.
I am completely against random reflashing of the PCM to different factory PCM revision just to get "the latest", as that rarely helps anything - and in many cases, it eliminates some of the very nice controls we have, for one quick example, over certain aspects of torque converter operation upon deceleration - something that nobody in this thread would have any knowledge of - that is something that only I as the truck's tuner would know, from years of specializing in and tuning many thousands of these trucks.
Please just do as we asked, which is to plug the unit in and do a "read strategy" on it so that we will know for certain what revision it is. *That* is what needs to be done.
Treat your stock factory program just like the BIOS chip on the mainboard of your PC - do not change it unless it is absolutely necessary to actually fix a problem.
If you have any more questions on this, please call us and we'll be more than happy to go over this with you - and thanks very much for your understanding on this, it's greatly appreciated!

long waits
It appears that there are a lot of us who wait to receive the tuner, then have to wait again to see if our systems have been reflashed. It has been two months, and I still do not have my programming. So far, the tuner is sitting on my fireplace mantle as a conversation piece.

Troyer? I actually gave them the wrong PCM code. Crystal called to ask me about it... they sent the XCAL2 so I could read the correct code off my truck which I called and gave to Marc... then Mike called me at 8pm on a Friday to confirm a couple of things and I had my tunes emailed to me on a Sunday. This guy really does seem to work 24/7!!
I know they were real busy with the move to the new shop, and then with dyno days, but you may want to give them a call to find out what your status is
By the way, it's worth the wait! I have an F250 with the V10 and it's like driving a totally different truck with the XCAL2 programming.
