Troyer Tuned... Finally!
Troyer Tuned... Finally!
Well it was hard to be patient, but I am finally in possession of my Troyer Tuned XCal2. I only have 87-octane in the tank now, but with the 87-tow tune I am impressed with the way the transmission is shifting, throttle response, and I like the higher shift at full throttle. I can’t wait to get the 91-octane in and try out the 91-performance tune.
To be honest I expected to get an XCal2 that wouldn’t work because of the confusion with my dealer on my PCM code. I had it updated, came to find it wasn’t done, then it was done but they had no sticker, only a part number. The guys over at TP got it right, and everything went perfect... I didn’t get my sticker though!
Ill keep you guys updated as I have a crew cab hemi to race, a 4.8 GMC single cab, Buick roadmaster, 4.6L 2005 SCab F150 (Edge Tuned), and then plenty of randoms around town that I don’t know. I hope to beat all the above. For those that don’t know I’ve got a Shadow Gray SCrew 05 5.4. I’ve put on a magnaflow muffler and an Airaid MIT with a K&N.

You think the 87-oct tune is good...Just wait till you load the 91 perf tune!! It it truly amazing the difference between the two! Do you have an intake too?? If not, you dont know what you're missing with the Xcal2/Intake combo!
Ya I have an intake... I went to the gas station today and while I filled with 91, I installed my 91 Performance tune. I noticed that my gas gauge does not show my tank being full though! I turned it off and on and whatnot, but it doesnt show I full tank! Anyone know whats up with this? If not Im sure the guys at TP can help me out. I am thinking reprogram to stock then reinstall the 91 performance...
Ok I fixed the gas gauge, I installed the stock tune, then disconnnected the battery for a few minutes. Reconnected it, and then everything was good. I then reinstalled the 91-Performance and it seems cool. I do hear this rattle noise often when I first step into the throttle, but I am not sure what up with that. Ill be keeping an eye on that over the next tank of gas or so from a different place before I call anyone...

Jon
Yeah Ive got a 90 LX 5.0 with 10:1 compression, and on accident one time I ran 87.... ewww!
I didnt hear the noise the last time I did WOT, so it might have been 87 still in my fuel line... The gas station is less then 1/2 mi. from my house so, maybe?
It was Mobil 91 Oct. fuel here in Palm Desert, Ca. Capital of the highest prices in the US. 3.09 for the 91.
Oh yeah, and the 91 tune kicks butt. I love the way I can roll into the throttle without it shifting at the wrong time, the firm shift at WOT but milder shifts at part throttle. Thanks Mike, nice tunes. Fore those of you thinking about it, its hard to understand without having a tuner, but it is worth it and basically makes the truck like it should have been factory.

Hi Robamus,
Glad to hear you are enjoying our tuning!
You do have to be careful when going up to the higher octane tune, we advise making sure that you run the 87 down until the low fuel light first comes on, and then fill it up with god quality premium gas, and then installing the tuning -0 it sounds like you had too much 87 octane still on board, most likely, but that will work it's way out very quickly.
And yes, I do have to agree, we set these vehicles up for the way we feel they should have come from the factory, that is a very often-heard comment about our tuning.
Also, the tunes are also getting our faster now as well, since we have now moved into the shop - that is now behind us (thank God!) and tunes are rolling out of her every day pretty quickly at this point. Right now we are running at about 22 business days from the time we get the info from the customer to the time the tunes are done and ready to ship out - and that number is now dropping, and will soon be back to our more normal 10 business days or so.
Thanks for your post, & have fun with your tuning!

Just a curious question or maybe you can say a stupid one, but I will give it a try... What if you Xcal2 is tuned to 91 Perf. and accidentally or intentionally fill your tank with 87 Octane, is there will be a problem? If so what will be? and is this can be resolve? Sorry for this question just for curiousity sake. Anyway, still patiently waiting my xcal2.

. One word----- Don't
Thanks Mike! Yes I ran the fuel down till the light came on, but I could only get about 26 Gal. into the truck. So, I imagine that extra 87 is what causes the pinging. I dont notice so much in the last day or two, unless I am in OD, and tip into the throttle just enough to accelerate, but not enough to drop a gear. This is when I hear it the most, so I have been very careful till I get some more 91 in there and then see whats up. I am sure everything will be cool once I get the 87 flushed out, but if not I know who I am calling! (And I am sure he has an answer!)
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
