Xcal2 questions?

I am patiently waiting for my Xcal2 from Troyer. I faxed in on Feb. 28. I have seen several postings from people who already have the tuner. My question is about the different tunes everyone has and chooses to use. I have an 04 Lariat screw 4x4, 5.4 3v, K&N FIPK and Magnaflow SI/SO. I also really like using 87 octane fuel. I do some towing with my boat and an occasional trailer, so I need towing as one of my options. What are you all using and what would you recommend for me? I don't plan on making anymore performance mods. The other day I saw a posting that talked about a 93MAX or 91MAX program. What does that consist of? Is there one dedicated to gas mileage? Any help would be greatly apprieciated!

Thanks,
Gary

1. 93 Max tune: A few of us, JPdadeo, myself and a couple others did a beta test for Mike Troyer. The tunes we tested were labeled 93 Max (for me) so as not to confuse them with the tunes we already had, ie.... 93 Performance. Its an old lightning tune name that was used for this occasion. We were the guinne pigs and I'm sure everyone who orders Troyers custom tunes reaps the benifits of those tunes.

2. The first thing you need to ask yourself is what grade of fuel are you going to run. I run the 93 and having used the 87 for a while, determined the $3 -4 per tank differance is well worth the fun of the 93 octane tune. (and there is a big differance) If you like power then get the 93 Performance and 93 Tow, with an 87 fuel ecconmy tune as a third choice if gas prices get bad. If you intend on running 87 and care more about saving a buck then pick your tunes accordingly. Call Mike and discuss this with him and I am sure he will guide you to the right decision.

Good luck

Will the 87 tune conserve fuel? What are other benefits of this tune? I'm considering a tuner for my screw improved fuel mileage will help sell the idea to the wife.

05SilverFX4,
Thanks for your reply. You have already helped me clear up some questions I had. I am looking forward to talking to Mike. I am wanting the fuel mileage for things like trips and if fuel prices do go sky rocketing again. I definitely have some things to consider with the other choices. Thanks again!

I'm running 87 Tow right now. I like it. I'm new to this and haven't tried the 91 Tow or 91 Performance yet. But I actually think I may have gained .5 to 1.0 mpg with the 87 Tow vs the original stock tune.
