Should I be scared of my brother?
I have a 2005 Screw with 5.4L with 3.73 gears. It has the K&N Intake, Magnaflow Dual In/Dual Out exhaust, and the Troyer XCal2. This thing is pretty fast.
My brother has a 2002 GMC Sierra Single Cab with 4.8L, Superchips "canned" tuner, Dual In/Dual Out Magnaflow exhaust, and Airforce One intake and 3.42 gears. This thing is pretty fast too.
He has driven my truck at WOT and I have driven his at WOT. I think that I can beat him in the 1/4 mile but he thinks he can beat me. I admit that I am impressed with the way his truck runs but I think that I can take him off the line just because of the difference in the gear ratios and the fact that all my horsepower, "I think", is in the 3000 rpm range. All of his power is in the 4000-5000 rpm range. If it was a one mile race he would probably be faster, I admit. But he is my little brother and there is no friggin way I will ever admit that he is better at something or has something better than mine unless he proves it.
Question is: Should I be scared? In a heads up race should I beat him?. I have more motor than he does but about 1,500 to 2,000 more pounds than he does. He has more top end but less weight.
Which one of these trucks should win? I am planning to go to a drag strip in Ft. Worth with him and race just to see who has "better" equipment.
Any comments or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Just powerbrake that like a ****... Or did someone say with the 04+ its better to just flash it (just punch it from a stand still) I think youll get him if you get a nice launch...

OK! This is the EXACT SAME reason I am buying my Xcal2. It will be here tomorrow. I have a 05 SCrew 5.4 and my friend has a single cab 99 with a 4.8. As of now he can beat me by a carlength. If I cant beat him with my xcal after he gets his chip and muffler Im gonna cry. Let me know what happens!
some tool in a supercab silverado with the 5.3 was trying to cut me off the other day, I got over, lined up at a light, and with about 250 pounds of chairs and tables in the bed of my supercrew I was able to take him in about an 1/8th mile splurt. He even started first, but I started to pull as soon as I left the line and he never had a chance.
I've got a 2wd screw with 4.1s, intake, and siso exhaust only.

The thing with the chevys is that they use such small axles and transmissions that it doesn't take much power to make it go fast. You just have to rebuild them all of the time though if you pull anything.
Just look at the difference in size of the axle behind the 5.4 and a chevy. The bearings of the chevy will nearly fit inside of the bearings on the ford.

Be careful you are carrying a lot more weight than he is and regardless what anybody says it does make a difference. I have an 02 KingRanch Supercrew with 295/70/17's before the new tires I was at 5700 lbs. A mid to late model 90's chevy half ton single cab I am guessing with a 350 pulled up beside me last weekend and I put it to the floor and needless to say I started pulling slowly. I have an Xcal2, Magnaflow exhaust, and a cold air intake.I almost forgot do not power brake your truck, Mike specifically said not to power brake before a race.
When i dumped branches at a local dump, with normal load of 1 person and normal gear i weighed in at 4800 pounds, now they could be off a little bit, but i dont see how your screw can be almost 1000 pounds more then mine.

Chevy 4.8 really wouldnt worry at all.
A friend of mine had one with a chip and a true flow intake thing and exhaust. It sounded meen as hell but it was slow. We raced 2 time, one when i was stock and one now. I won both times. Stock, i just pulled out in front. Most recently thow, he took off before i did and got far enough out in front that i could read silverado on the tailgate then i just realled him in and by the time i was passing him i was flat running by him (he took off and i just sat there). He got rid of that truck thow and has a Z71 now its a nice truck.
The 5.3 motor thow is pretty good, ran my best friends from a stop and dominated till bout 70 when he started to pull and started gaining on me fast. his is 2wd thow.

It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio - along with, to a certain extent, the shape of the torque curve,m and there yo have a distinct advantage torque-wise.
If his 4.8 truck has 170 Hp at the rear wheels, and weighs 4800 lb - then it has 28.235 lbs for each Hp getting to the rear wheels. If your truck has 260 Hp at the rear wheels, and weighs 5800 lbs - giving it 22.31 lb for each HP getting to the rear wheels - then it's no contest, you'll get him if you drive it right.
Another point is that your 5.4 makes a LOT more torque than a 4.8 or even a 5.3 GM truck does - where those GM trucks make their power is up at higher rpms where they work pretty nicely, to be sure.
I can personally tell you that our 6200 lb 2004 SuperCrew Lariat 4x4, with nothing more than our tuning on it, ran 138 mph (with the mirrors extended and no tonneau cover, the tailgate was in place, etc.) and was still pulling when I had to let off due to losing control of the vehicle - on stock tires & suspension. (No, I do NOT recommending that to anyone - we were doing "official" testing
).
So overall, I think you've got him.
Now if you want to continue to worry and guess at it, then bare minimum you have to know the power of each truck, and it's weight, to even have any chance of "guessing" at it - I say just take 'em out, line 'em up, and go at it - and be careful when you do it, don't go running 90 mph on public roads and taking a chance on getting caught street racing or being a danger to others! Running 0-75 mph or so on the Interstate should be enough to show who's boss without taking chances or endangering others with high speeds, etc.
PS - my money is on you.
