87 VS 93, Here's the scoop

I have tracked my milage for every tank of gas from day one. At 1500 miles I installed the Xcal2 with 93 octane tune, AF1 and magnaflow SIDO and from 5000 miles until now (9760 miles) I have averaged 14.7 mpg. Its now spring in FL so its time to tow the boat. I was stupid and got the 87 tow tune. So I have been running 87 ocatane for the last few weeks. With less than 1/4 tank on 87 tow and the rest on the 87 Max. my average has been 14.3 , a difference of .4 mpg. With the difference in price ($.20 per gal, reg/prem ) the cost is $1.48 per tank full to run my 93 Max tune. For those of you that have Troyers custom tunes the difference in the 87 and 93 tunes are substancial. On the Fun-O-Meter, with stock being a 3 on a scale of 10 and the 93 tune being a 10 the 87 tune is about a 6 and only because the tranny shifts better. So for all of you that don't run the 93 tune because of the cost difference.............$1.48 for 300 miles of Hemi stompin' power....come on. Thats a bargin! its time to order a 93 octane tow tune!

I bet you are unaware that today, March 14th, is PI day. ??

PI, as in the approx number 3.14159. Math classes celebrate it.

I ordered the 87 tow as well. I'll probably love the 93 tune and just leave it there. Of course that means I'll be ordering a 93 tow too. Heck I'm changing and I havent even gotten it yet

Uh, that would've been January 23rd.

But hey, we can still celebrate it.

Pass the plate and the scoop.

The PI reference was just a little trivia for those who like to do math. You don't have to be good at it to know. I know I'm not.

I have the XCal II on order too. 91 perf, 91 tow, and 87 perf. I figure I can use the stock tune for towing with 87 octane.

I think he is trying to tell you your math might be wrong. I think it might be too. Just in my head, it looks like you would use about a 1/2 gallon less to run 300 miles on premium. Around approx. 20 gallons (a little more actually), so, lets say reg is $ 2.40 and premium is $ 2.60 (.20 more), you would use 1/2 gal less then the reg ($1.20), but you would spend .20 more per gallon for the 20 gallons ($4.00) which would make it about $2.80 for the 300 miles.....................still worth it.

Ha, I just reread it.............sounds kind of ****.........ha.
Oh well, it sounded kinda off and I had to think it out........hell, my approximations could be wrong.

Ha Ha, yes my math was wrong .......(.4 mi/20 gal = 8 miles = .55 gal * $2.27 = $1.25 = a differance of $2.75 per fill up) Better?
