Changing Tuner Program Weekly/Can This "Hurt" Anything?
Changing Tuner Program Weekly/Can This "Hurt" Anything?
If I weekly change from performance tune(91-93 octane) to tow tune(91-93 octane) can this weekly change do any harm to the engine, tranny, etc. I am running a Superchips Microtuner. Thanks.
I'm sure the PCM can take 100's of flashes, but I'd be concerned if I planned on doing this every weekend for the next two years or so unless I was going to be trading it off or something. Sounds like it'd be best for you to just run the tow-safe tuning full time...I'm guessing the gains aren't that much greater for such a hassle / risk.
That means you would be flashing the PCM over 100 times a year - twice each week - that's really over the top. If you have to tow that often, then just leave it in the towing program is my advice.
Though there is no set limit on how many times you can flash a PCM, it's not a toy - it should be treated more like the BIOS chip on the mainboard of your PC, in other words - and you'd never flash that twice a week - well, unless maybe you were in firmware development, perhaps.
Somebody that has to tow every week is better off just leaving it in the towing program all the time - not flashing the PCM back and forth 100 times a year.
