Governor Chip
Governor Chip
If some one wanted to say take off the governor chip from his 05' F-150 because he got a Roush blower, proformance chip, and things of that nature. How would he take off the governor chip so it would go faster? Is there anything else this person might be able to do to his computor that would make his truck go faster? Thank you, Haler50
HI Haler50,
We have re-tuned more of the Roush-supercharged 2004 & up 5.4 3V's than anyone else in the aftermarket, so we can take care of this. We are a Roush dealer, and know this kit very well, having worked with them on it for even since before it was released.
Right now, what the vehicle has is the standard Roush calibration, which does a good job of controlling the A/F's, but does a poor job in the transmission shift characteristics, is slow off the line due to them not letting the blower go to work quickly enough, and still has the stop speed limiter, bangs the 4-2 downshift badly, and some other issues - we fix all of that, and when we're thru tuning it, that truck will not only no longer have a top speed limiter, but it will also accelerate much quicker, feel stronger, and have more HP & torque all the time, at any throttle position or rpm - with vastly improved throttle response.
The reason Roush does not take off the top speed limiter is because they are concerned about the stock driveshaft "wallowing" and thus coming out of the tailstock of the tranny and then pole-vaulting the vehicle - so we strongly recommend replacing the driveshaft to a good steel performance unit, and/or installing a driveshaft safety loop so that on the of chance it did come out at 150+ mph, it wouldn't pole-vault the vehicle, but instead would simply drop harmlessly into the loop, and you just slip it back in. Of course, if that were to ever happen, that would tell you to have it replaced with a better unit right away.
Remember, the stock driveshaft was never designed to turn the kinds of rotational speeds that are incurred when the vehicle is driven at 150 mph or so, which is what it will be capable of once we tune it.
Just give us a call at our number listed below to have us take care of this for you!

That requires a custom tune - there is no "off the shelf" type of device you can just go out & buy, in other words. It takes someone who is highly skilled specifically in Roush's tuning to be able to do this correctly.
We will retune the vehicle properly via our custom tuning, which we deliver using the XCalibrator 2 - it's a hand-held tuner that would contain a set of 3 of our custom tunes, and has the most advanced feature set of any such product on the market. Just have your friend who actually owns the vehicle call us directly so that we can go over this with him properly.

Hi Haler50,
Yes, you would - each vehicle needs it's own tuning device, in other words. It's not like you can take something for a Roush-supercharged F-150 and then just plug it in and use it to tune an Excursion - which, depending on model year & options, could have anything from a 5.4 V8 to a V-10 gas engine to the more common Powerstroke diesel - and most are V-10's or diesels.
So yes, each vehicle needs it's own tuning device, basically - and yes, we cna tune the Excursions as well, a lot of those owners come to us for tuning them, as they are WAY heavy, and need all the help they can get for power for most of their owners.
Now what you *can* do with the XCalibrator 2 is, once you have used it on one vehicle, it can be cleared and then *reprogrammed* with new tunes we would make so you could then use it on the next vehicle - that you can do, so that it's not permanently limited to the one vehicle it was originally programmed for - but you can use it on only one vehicle at a time.
