edge on fx4

I was wondering what the shift points were on the level 2 program. I have the 5.4l. And it seems to be shifting a little premature like 1st to 2nd 4900 and so forth. Also if you running level 2 and you run 89 octane what do you have to do to the tune?

Welcome to the forum. From what I read the shift points were decreased from edge on the last update. If you would like higher shift points you can set them in your tuner. The standard has been +1 degree of timing for every two points of octane. The level two was made to run on a minimum 87 but you can use anything over that with no problems. I brought the shift points down on WOT to
1-2 (4700) 2-3 (4700) and 3-4(4500) I didn't want the revs too high when shifting and I also really didn't notice that much more pulling power once I hit over about 7700 rpm BEFORE the shift occured it almost seemed like my truck was just making alot of noise anything over that. So for my truck Fx4 5.4 this worked out to be pretty well. Also if you are in a high altitude area timing can be adjusted +1 for every 2500 feet elevation. I currently have mine at +2 timing because I am running 88 octane at about 6000 feet. If you are not sure, definitley don't adjust drastically. so
If you no longer have the octance option on the edge(which the new updates have changed to timing here is what I was told by one of the EDGE techs)

+1 increase in timing for every two points of octane
+1 increase in timing for every 2500 feet of elevation.

work on your shift points and I think you may agree that you really don't need them that high to get good results. good luck.

Are you guys at altitude making any fuel/air mixture adjustments? Shouldn't it be run leaner at altitude. Or does the timing advance have a similar effect and burns that rich mixture better?

I believe it is the only timing that needs to be changed. don't know for sure. Hope someone can chime in. I am just following EDGE tech instructions regarding timing and altitude changes to their unit.

Thanks for thr info. I was just wondering if it would make more power running higher octane fuel and get better mpg.

Where you will see the most power would be perhaps on level 3 with the performance tune and higher octane or even race fuel 97-104 octane and the timing adjustments. I don't know for sure (before experts come slamming down on me ). Any info to help this fellow member is welcome.

For level 2 i will just run 87-89 octane and leave the settings alone. unless I use 91 on level 2 tune then I would go +2 on the timing. But remember that when you go down on the octance you will have to go down on your timing and I just don't like the fiddling with the unit everytime I pump gas. So I'd leave it on the level 2 and just use a minimum of 87.

I just did a 0-60 run and it was a 8.5. does that sound average. I guess im asking because i thought the truck would feel a little stronger than that. Just making sure im not missing anything here.

But i still like the edge and would refer other people to buy.

I tried the level 3 with one tank of 91 octane. WOW. But I don't need it. I am happy with the level 2. Just the improved shifts and throttle response is enough for me to keep this unit.

I did a 0-60 and got 12.20 so you are way ahead of me. I went down on the WOT shift points because I did not like hearing the engine rev so high and I really didn't notice any more "pull" it seemed to plateau at about 4700 and then would just creep to 5000 before the shift(on level 2). Then again I have a 300 pound bumper. A 90 pound winch and 33" tires that weigh 75 pounds each. THAT may be the "problem",

Has anyone tried the level 3 and backing down the timing 1.5 using 87-89 octane?

I use the level 2 tune because I am too cheap to pay for a whole tank of 93 gas. Nevertheless I was able to get a 0-60 time of 8.1 seconds with some wheelspin. I haven't made any changes to the tune other than set the tire size to the correct size for my truck.

I am happy with the improvements I get from the shift points and throttle response, but I'd still like to drive a Troyer tuned truck to compare the difference.

I wanted to make sure as well, so I phoned Bill @ Edge to verify (after already trying it). He told me it would be fine as long as the timing is retarded as you stated, as always though whenever you are adjusting timing, listen for any audible pinging at WOT. Just do not tow on level 3 because it potentially can lean out. I never got a straight anwer though as to whether there is really any advantage to doing this over running a custom level 2. I say this only cause this is what I was told for my truck running at 2600ft if that makes any difference.
