Just ordered!

Just ordered my XCAL2 from Troyer

I went with the popular 87 Economy, 91 Tow, 91 Performance tunes.
Can't wait to see how it improves my big V10's performance.

Also considering upgrading the intake & exhaust, but I'm getting mixed information... AF1 seems like a good system, but since I live in the west and spend ALOT of time in dusty condtions, I'm concerned about the effectiveness of a cotton/oil system. I had a K&N on another truck and dust did get through as it was visible in the tube behind the filter...
I'll probably do a cat back exhaust, but I hear that due to the design of the V10, aftermarket exhausts don't really sound all that good. No V8 rumble, more of a 'ricer' sound? Not what I'm looking for! I've also heard that you lose some low end torque with these systems! What HP/Torque gains would I see in 'normal' partial throttle conditions? I rarely go WOT... Mike I know you're busy getting your dyno set up, but... what do you think?

Hi BadDogPSD,

Congrats on getting your XCal 2 ordered!

Figure that you're going to see about 10-13% more HP & 13%-18% more torque at any throttle position or rpm, generally speaking, on part throttle.

regarding the intake, you really shouldn't deprive yourself of those kinds of power gains - if you live or have to drive in very dusty areas, just have us include a "sock" for the filter, which will eliminate that issue, while still allowing you to enjoy the benefits of a low restriction intake kit - and the Air Force One is the one to go with for the best results.

Now on the exhaust side of things, it can be hard to make the V-10's sound good, but we have great success with our Magnaflow systems - those V-10's have a nice rumble/growl combination that is very pleasing, everyone we've installed them on loves them.

Feel free to call us if you'd like to go over any of those additional issues (intake & exhaust) in more detail, & we'll be happy to help.

Thanks for your post!

Is this for the tuner, intake, exhaust, or all the above?

I'll give you guys a call in the morning!

From everything I’ve heard, those V10’s really put out after they’ve been custom tuned; good choice on the XCal2

That is just from our custom tuning alone!

To know what the intake & exhaust add, you would have to dyno the vehicle before & after, and it would have to be done on a high-end eddy-current dyno at that, in order to get part-throttle HP & torque numbers. See, the vast majority of dynos can only measure power at full-throttle - our chassis dyno can do part-throttle as well, so it you're ever in our area, we can put it on the dyno so you can see what it does.
