XCal2 To Dyno or Not to Dyno - What is the cheapest option?
XCal2 To Dyno or Not to Dyno - What is the cheapest option?
Well I was talking to some members in the group by forum. I thought I'd post here since I'd have a better chance of getting Mike's opinion.

Is that with buying a A/F ratio logger? Because that would be more expensive that doing two dyno sessions.
I'm just trying to figure out the entire cost of this endeavor before the purchase. Could you let me in on what the instructions suggest as a cheaper option? I apologize if I've missed this in my searches of the chips forum.
I'm not out in the boonies, just trying to keep costs down. The extra cost on the dyno might make this something I'll have to hold off on doing till later this year. I know it's a great deal on the XCal2 and tunes, but once you add the $150 for a dyno, the full cost of tuning is $XXX (blanked out to not discuss cost of Mike's group buy price which you can find in the group buy forum.)
Once again, totally not knocking the price, just saying that it still might be out of my reach if I have to pay $150 for a dyno. Though the $XXX is something I'd love to do for the XCal2. Just trying to provide my business to Mike and keep within my budget for "fun-to-haves"
Thanks fellas,
Duke

Hi Duke,
It's always preferable to get the A/F's by running it on a dyno - however, for those who do not have a dyno within a reasonable distance - say, 100 miles or so, we do have an alternate method - it's not quite as accurate, nothing will be as accurate as properly tested wideband A/F's, but we can datalog some other parameters to give us enough info to make a rough adjustment and make sure the truck is safe & making good power.
It's funny sometimes - in the past week we had 2 people send in their datalogging info and both of them went to a dyno, and both of these dyno facilities told them they were running very lean, like 16:1 - when in fact they weren't - one of them called our customer back and told them they found a broken reed valve i the air pump for their Air/Fuel meter, and offered to re-test him free. So sometimes we get A/F s from a dyno that just aren't right, and in those cases, we use the other data we have you record with the XCalibrator 2 to confirm the A/F's, and adjust from that.
Now because we are doing the Group Buy on our custom tuning, right now we are being a bit more "lenient" (for lack of a better term) on the method of getting the A/F's, and you probably read about that already in the Group Buy forum - but if you have any questions on that, please feel free to give us a call and we can go over that with you, as we want everyone to be able to afford to take advantage of this Group Buy.
So there are a couple of ways to do it, the best is accurate wideband A/F's, but we also have other parameters we have you record with the XCal 2 & the Live Link datalogging software (you just download the software free) and we can get that info we need another way - so no sweat, we can make it run where it should either way - and all of that info is included, we send that out to you when you place your order, so you'll know exactly what to do, and if you have any questions, we can help you thru it, no problem!
