I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS THE CHEAPEST OR BEST WAY TO GET A LITTLE BOOST IN POWER AND PERHAPS INCREASE MY LOW GAS MILEAGE WITHOUT GETTING EXTREME IN THE MODS ARENA.

 

My personal recommendation is the Troyer tuned XCal2, not only did I get much improved mpg, now my truck is faster than average, basically unbeatable by any similar weight truck, and that includes titan’s, hemi’s etc, etc.

 

there are alot of guys in here that love the troyer and have had great success with it. Personally i have a Edge tuner in my truck and i absolutely love it. I have increased my gas mileage and major power boost. I might be wrong about this part but the troyer takes a long time to get to you. An edge you can pick it up at a performance shop and have it plugged in before you leave the parking lot.

Either one is an excellent choice.

 

I just installed the XCal 2 earlier this week. I can't testify to the fuel economy issue yet, but there are many others on this board who will. As for the performance side, the XCal is phenominal and I haven't even loaded the 93 octane tune yet. I can't seem to burn up the tank of 87... maybe that is a testimony in and of itself for the fuel economy. As for taking a long time to receive this unit from Troyer, I emailed worksheets on 1/10/06 and receved the tuner on 1/26/06 and I opted for the ground (slow) shipping option. Basically two weeks for a "custom tune" versus a "canned tune" and this seems like a short wait to me considering what you are getting. Not to mention the customer service @ Troyer was second to none. There are lots of tuners out there, check'm all out and make your own decision, but for my recommendation I would certainly consider Troyer Performance and the XCal2.

i got a 2 mpg hwy boost with my edge programmer (drivin 80+mph). I dont do much city driving to compare in town though.

 

I get a solid 16mpg plus, all local driving. Good gas and flat terrain helps me out too

 

I am very new to this but i was wondering with this, will this give me better throttle response? becuase my 05 4.6 150 is very slugish and not very good with mpg prob getting 13 city so anything would help. What kinds of things would i be getting from this other than better mpg??

Also how much does once of these go for?

 

05Blue -- ABSOLUTELY... you will feel a HUGE difference in throttle response. MPG, well, that will depend on you. As a rule, when the throttle response skyrockets (like it will with the addition of a XCAL2), your right foot will tend to gain copius amounts of weight.

I hold true around 15-17 with winter formulated fuels... in the summer, I'll have closer to 18 with my normal driving routine -- and, by the way, I'm running the 93 Performance tune (which I'm not sure why I waited so long to try it!! WOW!!) plus, I have an Air Force One intake and Magnaflow 16612 Exhaust.

With that in mind, I'd highly recommend that you give Troyer Performance a call. Their staff and service, from my personal experience, is SECOND TO NONE. I've used them in the past, used them very recently, and will use them in the future! They are TOP NOTCH!

One thing - the 2005 & newer 4.6 F-150's all run quite lean from the factory - typically 15.0:1, even though the factory tuning in the PCM commands a 2.0:1 A/F - the MAF transfer function is way off, they all really need a proper custom tune to be safe to run hard, or to even tow a load, as their typical 15.0:1 is just too lean.
