I'm trying to decide whether i want a custom tune or just the "over the counter" micro MAX tuner....the only mods are 17'' wheels and muffler....I'm not going to do anything else. I'm not gonna run it at the track neither. All i want is firmer shifts, a little more power and overall drivability mainly. The diagnostic scanner aint a bad addition either

i've been drag racing for nearly twenty years from trucks-to sportbikes- to my snowmobiles to a 10 flat grand national gnx i owned-so i'd say i have some experience-same track for my runs with my truck-although it was different days-with diablo chip- i had 1/4 tank of gas-50 degrees approx 50% humidity- when i ran with the custom tune-dumbass me just filled tank up- was 90 degrees out with nearly 90% humidity- on both days i just punched gas[no power breaking] no spin with the diablo chip-major spin with mikes tuning and i still dropped time- even though my 5 gn's and present gn powered 89 ta are turbocharged-proper tuning is everything-i've went through approximately 12 different tuners on my 3.8's with gains of next to nothing to very impressive gains-to me experience is a must- when i got rid of 03 to purchase my 3/4 ton van-i had mike reburn my 9100 tuner for it- other than an amsoil drop in air filter- it's stock- with the part throttle torque gains i have - i ususally drive it between 2000-300o rpms-as it is nearly 4 tons loaded-i drive conservative if you will for best gas mileage-with the 93 tow tune loaded, it's a totolly different truck-it will lug hills in od and drive where as with stock tune it would constantly down shift- i can say this -any ford i own or will ever own will be tuned by mike troyer-when my schedule permits- for ****s & giggles i will put the van on the mustang dyno and do 4 pulls and post-stock,87 tow,89 tow, & 93 tow-phil

Hi fordmuscle385,

The only way to actually know the info *correctly* is to contact us directly at our number listed below. Nobody else can speak for us, nor can anyone else deliver our tuning.

We offer special discounts to F-150 Online members on BOTH our Troyer Performance custom tuning, which produces the best results on these vehicles, or on the "off the shelf" standard Superchips tuners - and we are the oldest Superchips WD in existence, by far, so to know their products very well, and have worked with them on a number of projects over the years.

So yes, there is a difference, - if all you are looking for is cheap and some gain, then go with the off the shelf unit.

Nut if you really care about that vehicle and want by far the largest safe & sustainable power & performance gains, and I mean along the lines of about 50% higher to as much as double the gains of the standard off the shelf stuff, then you'll want to go with our Troyer Performance custom tuning instead, it's well worth it, and is what the majority of people here actually go with. If you take some time to read the non-biased posts here, you will quickly find that the majority of people who are actually interested in getting the best results come to us for their performance & tuning needs.

This is because we have specialized in the performance of this vehicle platform longer than anyone else by far - over 14 years, and it shows in our results. We have more R&D into the tuning & performance modification of the F-150 platform than anyone else, and that is why we get the results we are well known for.

If you'd like to just simply get some straight scoop and know just what the differences really are in *accurate* terms so that you can make your decision from a fully informed standpoint with no sales pressure, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, & we'll be more than happy to go over all of that with you - just ask for me personally.

In the meantime, best of luck with your truck, & thanks for your post!
