Superchips Question

I have a buddy with a 03 F-150 4.6L. He bought the over the counter superchips programmer for his truck. He installed the tune and really likes it. I was wonderinf if that same tune can be loaded onto my truck, just to see if I like it or not? I plan on buying the Xcal2 with custom tunes just dont have all the money for it right now. My truck is a 01 4.6L if that matters.

Ok what is the difference between the two then? I dont know thats why I'm asking before I do anything. I'm sure the chip was for 97-03 4.6L motors.

If it is an OTC generic tuner, get the part # and check the superchips info on that number and see if it is applicable to your truck configuration. If so, give it a try.

It shoudl be applicable on your truck. I think that tuner is made for the 97-2003 models. Hook it up and give it a try. Just make sure to follow all the directions and choose the right tune.

He will definitely need to reload his stock tune b4 you can upload a tune to yours. Otherwise, it will give you an error.

Hi FordZilla,

What your friends has mist be the Part# 1715, and yes, that *will* work on *all* 1996-2003 F-150's with V8 engines. SO yes, he can return his vehicle back to stock, and let you borrow it to see if you like it - then you would have to return your vehicle back to stock, so that he could once again use his tuning.

Now just FYI - if you really want to maximize your gains, you will get a significantly larger power gain by using our Troyer Performance custom tuning in the XCalibrator 2, which is a similar device but with much better tuning and far more advanced features that has the future built in - meaning you can use it on FoMoCo vehicles of the future, all the way thru 2006, 2007, etc., as it has easily updateable firmware - that is something a unit like the 1715 your friend has can never do, so with our custom tuning you get not only larger power & performance gains as well as better driveability, but also the ability to have us reprogram it for your future FoMoCo vehicles when the day comes to sell or trade in your 2001 F-150 you presently have - just FYI so you;ll know.

If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below.

happy New Year!
