Smile Need Some help programming

I have recently purchased a HyperTech programmer (not knowing about the xcal programmer till this forum) and need some help finding the best shift points and rev limiters. I know that TroyerPerformance.com is a supporting vendor but I chose this programmer for its ability to run on 87 octane. I drive a min of 400 miles a week both city/highway and just want to get the best performance from my truck. I am looking for help from anyone who wants to help me out.

Thank you,
2005 Black FX4 Supercrew 5.4L

Shift Points: 1st-2nd: 5200 2nd-3rd: 5200 3rd-4th: 4800

RPM Rev. Limit: 300-500RPMS above Shift Points.

Just FYI: Your gonna get slammed by people here, etc...

Hi DoDd,

The *best* shift points are actually 5400 rpm for the 1-2 and the 3-4,and then 4700 rpm for the 3-4. That is what will get you the quickest acceleration without abusing the powertrain. Now if the torque converter was up to it long-term, a 5600 RPM 1-2 would be slightly quicker, but it's not a good idea to wing the stock TQ much beyond 5500 rpm on a frequent basis, so we recommend sticking to 5400 rpm for the 1-2 & 2-3,. and *never* more than 4700 for a 3-4 (at which pints you would be hitting 120 mph anyway), as the stock transmission is not going to like that - frankly, it's never a good idea to do full-throttle upshifts into Overdrive (4th gear), unless you have a complete performance-built transmission - the Overdrive band simply won't take it ling term, and you just don't have practical need for 120 MPH full-throttle 3-4 upshifts anyway, not on the street, and you'll never hit that in the 1/4 mile without a built motor and a blower or turbo with high boost (and I mean 600+ HP, figure 650 at the crank at that weight) and/or a lot of nitrous.

And by the way, just so you know, none of our tuning is limited to not being able to use 87 octane, even our standard off-the shelf stuff has handled that for years - in fact, we here at Troyer Performance actually pioneered multi-octane performance tuning for the F-150 years & years ago in multi-program chips, years before flash devices were ever made - and much of the market followed us due to the popularity of that option.

Good luck!

Hey asinatra,

You really need to learn to check your attitude at the door - nobody is slamming that gentleman asking for help, and just FYI, smart-alek comments & attitude don't help anyone, son.

I suggest you leave the advice-giving on "what's best" to those who actually have that knowledge, as that is not something that you, at the age of 18 (or maybe you've turned 19 by now), have. I truly do not mean to offend you, but you simply are not any sort of F-150 performance expert, your advice was wrong and not based on any actual knowledge of the powertrain components of this platform or any solid testing data, and you just do not have a solid knowledge base from which to attempt to play expert.

I hope you take this in the way it is intended rather than as an "attack," (as that is not my intention) as I wish you well, & hope you have a great New Years.

Heck, go ahead and attack. The boy's laid eggs in my posts before, even as far as to email me with crude comments containing his poor attitude. I believe when people are asking for real data, BSing about something then lacing it with attitude detracts from the whole reason we come here to begin with.

What a hypocrite. You say leave the attitude at the door then the next thing you say is with a c.ocky attitude about leaving everything to those who really know what's right.

You just lost alot of respect in my book but why should you care since I'm not a customer of yours.

I'm not an expert, and your not best SCT tuner either. But i have done my fair share of reading books regarding tuning and talked to local tuners. The funny part is what i said was only 100rpms(+/-) over what you said. It's like you were trying to prove me wrong anyway. Oh well.
