The wait is killing me! And I have a Question

Man I can’t wait for my xCal2
I ordered it on 11-30-05 and was hoping to have it in time for X-mas.
But I have not received it yet. BUT I'm glad you all love yours. I was planning on just buying a Hypertech programmer until I found this website. And after reading all the GREAT reviews on the xCal2 I changed my mind. I do have a question for you all. What is Dataloging? And how do you do it? And why?
Thanks for all the help
Ben Watson

Datalogging is using the Xcal2 hooked to a laptop to record all of the pertinant tuning data during various operating conditions. Usually on a dyno. This allows the tuner (Mike Troyer? I assume?) to dial in the tune to the exact needs and characteristics of your engine. This allows the maximum power, performance and driveability for your truck while maintaining the optimum level of safety. In other words, you don't want to damage your engine or affect its reliability.

Thanks desparado!

Yes I ordered it from TP. They seemed like the one place to me that really knew there stuff!

So after you do the dataloging. Do you have to send the xCal2 back tp TP to have it re-tuned? Does it cost me any more? And how long does it take to do the dataloging?

All you guys are killing me saying how awesome this thing is!
I am just waiting on ordering one until I am satisfied that my truck is running correctly. I have had some fuel injector issues and a few other small things happened that I want to make sure are corrected before I make the purchase. Otherwise I would have one already.

Ben,
Once you submit the datalogging that Mike requires of your truck, he will email the new tunes to you. That is assuming you need adjustments to the original tunes.

As long as you do this within 60 days, there is no charge from Mike unless you have made other mods to your engine that require tweaking. So, make sure you have all your mods done before the initial tune is completed.
Datalogging is done in 1 day, takes 2 hours or so. As a matter of fact, if you spread it out, it won't be valid and you have to do it again.
Mike, if I got any of this wrong, let me know.

Actually, I have not done mine yet, although I have been practicing.

Craig, give Mike Troyer a call and you will know that you should get one, and he can tell you when, if other issues should be addressed first.

HI Ben05F150,

Datalogging instructions and the complete explanation come along with the email we send every one of our customers when they first place their order for our custom tuning - this is the same email that contains the CPW's (Custom Program Worksheets) that you have to fill out & send back to us, just to refresh your memory. That should answer your questions by reading those datalogging instructions, as we cover that very thoroughly. So make sure to print out & read that document.

Datalogging is a relatively simple process of recording some of the powertrain's operating parameters and A/F ratios, so that we can see how the vehicle is running - this is important especially in the 2004 & up F-150 as a good number of them run too lean right from the factory, and that needs to be corrected (and I'm talking about when operating at full-throttle that a number of them run lean in stock trim - on part-throttle, they're all generally OK unless there is a mechanical problem).

Once we get the data, we review it, and if any changes are needed, we make them and email them to you - then you upload those tunes using your PC into your XCalibrator 2 - as long as you provide us with the data within 60 days of receipt of your tuner, and no other mechanical changes have been made to the vehicle, there is no charge for those fine-tuning adjustments, if needed - that is included as part of our custom tuning package.

If you need any help with regard to eh datalogging, feel free to give us a call a day or two before you do the datalogging, so that you have a good understanding of it. In the meantime, just read the docs that came in that email, and that will give you a good overview, and don't let it overwhelm you - it's really easier than it sounds, and once you start doing it, it's fun & you learn a lot about your vehicle.
