4.6l Intakes

I know that alot of testing has gone into the 5.4l intakes and the fact that most intakes other than the air force one causes a lean condition but is the same true with the 4.6l? I have a 2005 4.6l SC and want to find a good looking good flowing intake but am limited as to what i can get as i am from Canada and our selection seems to be hindered by that magical line called the border, most of the parts suppliers up here do not carry many brands and those that do do not or have even heard of the air force. So if anyone can shed some of the info on the 4.6 that would be great

thanks

4.6 Intakes

As far as I've read, and I believe others will concur....putting an air intake kit on the 2005 4.6's do not cause a lean condition. There are a few good intakes available for your engine. You have the AirForce One.....comes standard in Mike Troyers Stage 1 setup. You can also run the AirAid CAI....part number 400-162. All parts are available from multiple websites. accuautoparts.com has the AirAid kit for $259 n some change (USD). That is the cheapest I've seen it.

Hi sewerat,

The vehicles you have to worry about going lean are those that use the new MAF system, that do NOT have a traditional MAF meter, but instead, have a very small sensor that just slides into a rectangular opening in in the air intake tract.

In terms of the intake kit to use for your 4.6 F-150 or any 1997 & up F-150 regardless of what engine it has, what will get you the best results are the Air Force One intake kit, we've tested them all - hands down, that kit will gain the most power on any F-150 engine from 1997 thru 2006. The Airaid is also a good kit, that would be my second choice, and we carry them both, of course.

We also offer special discounts for all registered member of F-150 Online, so the hot tip is to give us a call & we'll be happy to help you with this, to make sure you get the right part & the right info, etc.

Good luck!
