Quick question for Mr T.

Mike I know you're swamped but if you have time I have a quickie. I've been on your x-cal II 93Perf tune for a couple of months now and I love it. However, for the last 2 weeks or so I am getting a little detonation on light throttle. Is this the infamous "winter gas" kicking in? I only run Shell 93 octane and have never had any detonation with this tuner before. Anything to worry about? Thanks...Jeff

It could very well be, but I can't tell you that here, and wont' hazard a guess - this is not where we do Tech Support.

That has happened before when people use crappy fuel, especially on winterized blends which all are lower in energy content anyway, but it has to be REALLY bad to have that happen on a 2004 & newer F-150.

And as you know because you have seen me say this here many times, any time anyone wants to communicate with us in any kind of "timely" manner, they need to call us, not keep bumping posts up.

As you also know from reading our documentation that came with our Troyer Performance custom tuning, you know, right there where we point out in big bold type in the very first section titled "HOW TO GET TECH SUPPORT," for any Tech Support you need to call us - not post it here.

So please, do as your docs point out and give us a call if you have any questions about any products purchased from us that you think you are having a a problem with, OK? Thanks!

Talk to you soon,

Hi Sajeffc,

I wanted to come back and drop you another note - I felt a bit bad about my last note being so short, and reminding about how we can't do Tech Support here, etc.

The deal is, unfortunately while we have a good-sized staff, there is only 1 of me to type everything here, and do all the custom tuning, and do all the R&D, and do all of our web site - so as you can imagine, I'm way beyond swamped - and now with our next new shop in the process of being built out,....... well, you can imagine.

Now, to get on with your issue - this could very well just be winter fuel in your area - HOWEVER - the 2004 & up 5.4 3V F-150 does have 12 degrees of retard built into it's knock sensor system, so it really takes some crappy fuel, and perhaps maybe some octane mixing (say, a bit more lower octane than we should really have in the tank when running on a higher octane tune, just to give you one example of a potential scenario) to really cause that kine of problem.

What I would suggest, if you get a chance, if to give us a call and let's you and I talk about this personally, to see what we come up with - my schedule is pretty hectic right now, so I may very well need to call you back, but I would like to go over this with you to see just what's up, OK?

Thanks!
