Hypertech Tuning

Has anyone used the Hypertech tuner on their truck. I have a 99 f150 4x4 5.4 liter automatic with CAI and free flow exhausts. Will this mod help in gas mileage and give the truck more power?

I second that.

I have yet to see anyone unhappy with Troyers work.

Those that post otherwise don't have Troyers tunes and just troll the boards.

Hi Mike024,

To give you some specific info on the Hypertech, we test them once or twice a year and for the 1999 & up 260 Hp "PI" 5.4 F-150, we generally see an average of about 10-12 HP at the rear wheels on their premium gas tuning, and about 7 HP on their 87 octane tuning. So yes, it will help power a little bit, but I would not count on mpg gains, as they change very little on part-throttle.

Just to give you some idea of what is possible (and forgive me, as I'm as doing this at the risk of being the self-promoter that I basically am?!?), our Troyer Performance custom tuning will usually show gains in excess of 30 HP at the wheels on our premium gas tuning, and about 12-15 HP on 87 octane - in other words, we gain at least as much on 87 octane as they gain on premium - though to hear Hypertech's advertisements, they claim just the opposite, they love to brag about how they gain more on 87 octane than everyone else does on premium gas - but we've never seen that happen even once.

Additionally, with our tuning you will have more HP and torque ALL the time, at any throttle position or rpm - we don't just concentrate on full-throttle performance as most companies do. So all else being equal, as long as you use good quality fuels and do not drive the vehicle any harder, you generally see some mpg gains as well - not huge gains of course, but usually something on the oder of 1-2 more mpg is what tends to get reported back here by a number of our customers.

For example, we just had another public Dyno Day (weekend, actually) just this past weekend - we have a 5.4 of your generation in on the dyno, and it gained 36 HP at the rear wheels on the dyno on our premium gas performance tuning, which means it actually gained about 45-46 HP SAE Net at the flywheel - the vehicle owner was astonished.

We generally get better results, as well as better overall driveability and better transmission shift characteristics than the major chipmakers because we *specialize* in the F-150, where they rush out hundreds, and in some cases literally *thousands* of different vehicle applications in their quest to make millions of dollars - we don't do that (I guess we're not good business people, as we don't make millions of dollars, though we easily could if we took that mass-production approach).

We specialize in the F-150, and because that platform is what we have focused on for longer than anyone else (14 years), there are a number of major chipmakers that actually ask us for our help in developing their applications, because we are so well known for our expertise on this platform.

As I frequently say, if you wanted a BMW 12-cylinder tuned (though I have actually done some of them, too), we would probably not be the best in the world for *that* platform, as we do not specialize in it - but for the F-150, most people go with our Troyer Performance custom tuning as that is generally what gets them the best results.

This is just some brief info for now and I hope it helps - if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below - now one note, we are closed for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, I am just here catching up on some posts - we will be open again as usual on Monday, and our normal hours of business are Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, Eastern time. We also have 24 hours voicemail if you;d like to call and leave us your name & number, we cna always return your call so it's on our dime, if you prefer.

Best of luck whatever you decide,
