Change Xcal program when changing to stock thermostat?

Hello Everyone,

I have a Xcalibrator that I had Mike tune and when he tuned it I had a 160° thermostat. This was because I had a hypertech reprogrammer before the Xcal. I want to go back to the stock thermostat, mainly because I want to add the E-fans, but the weather is getting cold up here in Michigan and it takes the truck a while to warm up, and when it does it isn't very hot. Do I need to get the tune modified for the 195° thermostat or will it be fine? Thanks in advance for the help.

You need to give Mike a call with that question; only he knows if your tunes are going to need tweaking

I don't recall them asking when I filled out my paper work which thermostat I had but my memory was shot in the 70's. I would think that E fans would come closer to needing a retune than a thermostat change would but as jpdadeo stated only Troyer can say for sure. As Mike would say give them call.

Actually, our CPWS's do indeed ask about the thermostat!

You will need to call us and I will need to go over your programming in detail, as there is no way for me to remember who you are, or what I may or may not have needed to do for your tuning for that 160 degree t-stat. Yes, I usually DO make changes, and I never approve of using a 160 degree t-stat, that is far too cold - you lose heater function in winter, as most of them actually open up closer to the 120-140 degree range, especially if it's a Hypertech unit, we tested a lot of them some years back.

SO right now, I can't tell you, you will need to call, and we'll have to do some digging to see - but my hunch is that yes, we will probably need to make some changes so you;ll need to get with us to make sure on that, OK?

Thanks, & good luck!

Oh, PS - congrats on going back to a properly-rated t-stat - we recommend never going below a 180 degree t-stat on non-Lightning F-50's!

Thank you for the answer. I want to go to the e-fans eventually and would like to get my heater function back. I will give you a call because I want to get some other stuff changed on my programs. Thanks again for the help.

Hi Jason,

I think this is Jason H., right? If so, I did go back in and take a look, and you cna go ahead and change out to the hotter thermostat right now if you like, and you will be OK.

There are a couple of very minor things I would like to tweak on your tuning, as well as dialing in the A/F ratios for your larger injectors, etc., but I don't think we have ever gotten any datalogging from you that would enable me to do that, if memory serves?

At any rate, we do have some newer & easier datalogging procedures we use these days, so what I would suggest is to give us a call when you get a chance (just tell my staff I asked you to call me personally, and mention your full name please) so we can go over some of this with you, and also to discuss the specifics of what you would like to have changed, and get everything taken care of for you.

Thanks for your post & talk to you soon!

if you want to use a different thermostat, use a lightning thermostat or a Ford 180 Tstat. Should be the same thing. As mike said 160 is too cold for a street vehicle/truck. 180 should be fine.
