Black box

On a slightly different note then most questions in this section of the forums...

Is there a way to access the data stored in the "black box" in our vehicle to confirm th eactions of the vehicle prior to an airbag deployment?? I was going across a field and entered a ditch fairly suddenly but at a low speed. Starting up the other side the lower bumper made contact with the opposite side of the ditch and the airbags deloyed. I had heard that since airbags are not supposed to deploy under a certain speed that this may help me talk the dealership into replaceing them under my warranty.
1) What (if any) information can be retrieved to verify this?

and

2) Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing??

Thanks all

ZelenVr,
I have limited expirence with the so called "black box". The box was designed to download data for the manufacturer to assit them in designing their safety restraint systems. It has also been a valuable tool for law enforcment in investigating crash's. The 'box" will record every second the following information for up to five seconds prior to a deplyment.. 1) vehicle speed, 2) engine RPM, 3) brake switch on or off and 4) throttle position, it will give a number such as 45% or 65%. I keep thinking that there is a 5th item that it will monitor but if there is, it escapes me. As far as I know, the only people that will have the equipment to download the data will be the manufacturer, law enforcment angencies specificly vehicle collision reconstructionists and perhaps engineers that do work in that field. To my knowledge, not even the dealer will have the capability to view that data. Like I said, my expirence is limited, but I hope it helps some..
