2005 V-6 Chip
Hi & welcome;
You can't 'chip' a 2005 - you need a CAN-capable flash device.
Your choices are - in order of preference:
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=9400
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=9300
I don't think there is a 17xx device for your truck, but I could be wrong.
Good luck!
Cheers

Hi toy7521,
You probably didn't find it because I think, if memory serves, that this is the first time that a 4.2 V6 has been discussed being in the new body style 2004 & up F-150 - in fact, I've never even seen a 4.2 V6 in a new body style F-150, though we've tuned many of them in the previous body style F-150.
The many 4.2 V6's we have tuned in the previous body style F-150's over the years respond very well - generally with 20 HP rear wheel gains, if not more, and nice increases in torque at any throttle position and rpm - many of them can't even go open loop in stock form, for example.
Actually, after reading your post I had to double-check on Ford's web site to make sure they actually *do* list offering the 4.2 V6 as being available in the 2005 F-150, simply because even with the many 2004 & 2005 F-150's we've tuned, we just haven't had one here with the V6 in it so far. So I'd wager they build very few new body style F-150's with the V6 due to the new truck's much heavier weight and it's need for more power as a result of that weight - the majority of new body style trucks you see are equipped with the 300 HP 5.4 3V's, with a smaller number of 4.6 V8's. So it's nice to see a V6 owner drop by with something different.
The 4.2 V6 is a good engine in the various platforms Ford has used it in, and can take higher percentage power gains and still maintain excellent long-term durability - we have modified 4.2 V6's using stock internals and made 400 RWHP and still lasting for well over 150K miles, for example. Tough motors, to say the least.
To get to your actual point - we can tune the F-150 for you with any engine it comes with - all we need is it's computer code. This code can be found on many trucks by opening the front passenger door, and looking in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the upper door hinge - you should see a sticker with 3 letters and 1 number on it - and if not found there, you can go under the hood to the PCM itself, which is located under the hood, at the top of the firewall, just left of center - it has 3 wiring harness connectors right on the front of it' so it's easy to find, and a code sticker is usually there on the PCM on the right side, or sometimes on the front of it - and once in a while, on the left side - again, the code will always be in a format of 3 letters followed by 1 number, like TEM7, TBL2, VLW1, etc.
Give us a quick call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over all the details, costs, benefits, etc., with you on your truck, so you'll know exactly what you're dealing with and what we can do for the overall performance, driveability & enjoyment of your new F-150.
Thanks for dropping by, & best of luck with your truck!

Thanks Mike for the response. When I went to the dealership to buy the truck the salesperson told me it was a 4.6 and I was ok with that. About two days later I was looking under the hood and WTF it has a 4.2. I was not verry happy but I also have a 98 f-150 with a 4.2 and love it. The 98 has a v-6 and 5spd with 158544 miles on it. So I thought I have one 4.2 and love it so why not just keep the other one. I right now with city and highway driving with about 1700 miles on it am getting about 19.3 average mpg. So even though the truck is heavier it does get better mpg than the 4.6. I am just trying to get the best mpg that I can. I think I will give yall a call to talk about what my options are. Heath
Hi Heath,
Yes, the 4.2 V6 is a very reliable engine.
I would not be happy with a salesman that told me it was a 4.6 V8 but in fact turned out to be a 4.2 V6, that is gross misrepresentation - I would have looked at the window sticker and under the hood before taking delivery, but then being in the performance business we have always done that, where many other people don't. They are just so excited to get their new vehicle they sign the papers, climb in and take right off to start enjoying their brand new vehicle, which is perfectly natural!
The only thing that really matters is that you are happy with it, and it is a great long-lasting engine that will give you good MPG, etc., that is very true.
Best of luck with your truck, & we look forward to speaking with you!

Mike, for your info Ford didnt build a 4.2 in the 04's, they just started putting them back in the 05's and only in the regular cabs. With that said, I have a reg cab with the 4.2, and would be interested in getting mine programmed if possible. I pull a 18 1/2' bass boat and any extra power would be nice!
Hi RjA150,
Thanks for your post!
We knew Ford stopped using the 4.2 for the new body style 2004's, and that they were supposed to start putting them in the 2005's at some point, and only in the lighter 2005's - For us, it was really just the fact that we hadn't yet actually seen a 2005 with the 4.2 V6, so I double-checked on that after that first post, etc - but thanks for your info. I think these are the first 2 posts we've seen here in this section from 2005 4.2 V6 owners, so it's good to see the V6 owners with some representation!
In terms of getting your 4.2 V6's tuning done, we simply need to know your truck's computer code, as I mentioned in my previous reply above. Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below & we can go over all the details with you, if you like!
Good luck with your new F-150 & thanks again for your post,

Just read an ad in our local paper. One dealer is offering the 2005 F-150 XL reg cab at a really unbelievable price. With all the incentives the price listed was low at $11,699. Does not show what engine is offered but I bet its in line with what your seeing here and it sure must be the 4.2 V6.
I tried to talk the wife into one today. Her 90 Honda Accord just reached 230,00 miles.
