87 to 93 octane program differance

on a 2005 4.6 fi50 with a aircleaner kit, exhaust, how much differance would there be in the 87 octane tune to the 93?just wondering if the differance is worth the cost differance of 87 to 93.

I was watching the tv show 2guys and a garage ( i believe) and they had a guy from Hypertech on there and he said that for the 5.4l engine you will get better performance witht eh 87 program because of the low comprison our engines have, the 93 program is really only good if you have a high comprison engine.

Just some food for thought

Hi Fellas,

Sounds typical for Hypertech - utter nonsense. Cylinder pressure is indeed affected by far more than the static CR, it is vastly affected by timing as well as the variable camshaft timing & other aspects.

Just so you know the real deal, the actual correct information is that there is a significant difference in the power & performance between using 87 octane and using 93 octane with our Troyer Performance custom tuning.

Additionally, in the 5.4 3V F-150, there are areas in the power curve (way down low) where you can pick up 15 HP on the STOCK tune just by using 93 octane - though that is only at low loads. And then again at slightly higher loads, but only at low rpms.

We have gained upwards of 80 lbs./ft. of torque on 93 octane fuel in the 5.4 3V F-150, more than can be gained on 87 octane fuel. But then, we go a lot further into the programming than off-the-shelf products can, & have specialized in these trucks for a long time as well.

Now it *is* true that we are gaining more power on 87 octane in these 5.4 3V's than we ever have on older model F-150's - but it is NOT true that we don't gain even more power when we tune for 93 octane.

Just some quick FYI - for more detailed info, just give us a call at our number listed below.

Yeah and if anyone believes that geez, youll have no problem sellin them some ocean front properrty in montana either. Cmon people hypertech has teams of highly educated and very experienced electrical engineers and software engineers who work together to develop an exceptional product. I saw the same episode this dude is referring to and hypertech stated that they were actually making significant gains with higher octane which they stated was unusual for motors of such compression ratio. They stated that thhis new ford 3 valve motor was actually making more significant gains with higher octane thatn the others such as chevy and dodge. Man, and to think people actually read these boards and take what they read as the truth. jonpe1 you are sorely mistaken you were either smokin crack or not payin attention when you watched that episode. And then for even you mike troyer supposedly a exceptional performance tuner in the industry to also believe this guys claim that hypertech um doesnt know what the hell theyre doing. Good grief, um hypertech is much like superchips man, they could make an xcal themselves not just put a tune on one but engineer the actual piece of hardware and the software to go along with it.

What, in your world, "real" men don't care about grammar? You say no offense but then you question my masculinity. Don't worry, exx, I'm not stalking you. You can sleep safe at night in your jammies with your teddy bear...

Actually I watched that episode yesterday and they (Hypertech) tested 3 engines. One from Chevy, One from Dodge and the 3 valve 5.4 from Ford. They created optimized tunes for both 87 and 93 octane on all three engines. On the Chevy and the Dodge they were able to get almost the same performance with an optimized 87 tune as they did with their 93 tune. The exception was the Ford. They were still able to get more power using the 93 optimized tune. He (hypertech guy) said on the Ford he would run the 93 tune on weekends or track days but 87 on commuting days.
For the Dodge and Chevy he said the price of 93 was not justified because the Optimized 87 tunes were just as good.

That is a SHACK!

Just so funnny how people hiding behind a rude facade seem, more often than not, to be ill advised or just plain ignorant. Listen to testimonials and the seasoned Pro like mike and chances of success are much greater.
Just a thought!

ya whatever okie05lariat, it wouldnt matter how i came across or how raider was to come across, the rest of you will always think we're fulla **** bcuz we're not the a** kissing kind. And I only come across harsh because others start it, you comein here and make one little comment that is a different idea than everyone else has been hynotized into believing and everyone snaps on you, maybe because they dont want to believe they could have spent their money wiser or maybe just to try and shut the new idea up real quick before others try it and find out it is a good idea, who knows.
