Xcal 2 and a 5 speed tranny
Xcal 2 and a 5 speed tranny
anybody that has a standard tranny ordered the xcal2? just wondering, seems as though you always hear folks talking about shift points, down shifts, up shifts. What about a standard tranny and programers?
I would like to hear from anybody running that combo...

I can't tell you about the xcal2 but I did have a Superchips modual in my '98 F150 with the 5-speed. It did nothing for my shift points. It was still very much worth it though. Just think, there is less drive line loss with the manual so you should be able to get more power to the wheels with a tuner.
Good luck!

Hi blu72,
That is an excellent question, and one that has come up many times here - though we haven't had it come up in a little while, so I'll go over that again with you.
The guys with the manual trannies are actually going to get HIGHER power to the wheels stock or modified than those with automatics, just like wittom said in his response. This is because manual trannies take about HALF as much power to turn as automatics do, so you have much lower driveline losses with *ANY* manual transmission vehicle compared to the exact same vehicle with an automatic transmission.
The only differences is that the shift points don't' change, because there are no shift points to change - because it's not an automatic, of course.
I take that back - in some cases, with our tuning you will want to use a bit higher shift point, as you;ll be making more power at higher rpms (as well as at lower rpms, too), and thus you cna get quicker acceleration times by using a higher shift point. But the point is, with manuals, YOU determine your shift point, not us as the tuners - we can determine shift points only for automatics.
Now as far as how much power you will gain, your engine will gains the exact same amount of power REGARDLESS of what transmission is has fro our tuning - the exact same. Then only differences is, with a manual tranny and it's lower driveline losses, you will actually get MORE of that power gains to the rear wheels.
So the manual tranny guys don't lose out on anything, it's not any less worthwhile to have us tune your truck just because it's a manual, etc - if anything, you come out better, as you get MORE power to the ground than the same truck with an automatic - both in stock trim AND modified with our tuning!
