HP Gains

I have a question.
In the 2005 5.4 3V engins, they are rated at 300hp. Talking to Anita and general observations only about 230-250hp is getting to the rear wheels as would be expected. The custom tuning gets us approximately 25-40 hp gain depending on fuel quality etc. ( I am assuming at the wheels). Mike, you have stated the the injectors are only good to about 330hp( I am assuming that is at the crank). So am I correct in assuming that the best you can get out of the 2005 5.4 is 330hp ish and all the mods (tuning, exhaust, intake, efans, and underdrive pulleys) help deliver the 330 crank hp to the wheels, therefore getting us better performance?
Thanks in advance!
Ted

I’m not sure how they calculate the flywheel hp numbers from the factory but the hp & torque numbers that TP posts are achieved on a dyno at the rear wheels

As far as the injectors go, I don’t remember reading anything specific about the new 3-valve, just the 4.6 and the 2-valve 5.4

Hi Okie,

I don't mean to "burst your bubble," so to speak - but I think you might be getting your vehicle's/model years/injector sizes/flywheel versus rear wheel power numbers etc. a bit confused - the 5.4 3V engine comes with 24# injectors, which will hold you good for MUCH higher power levels than the 2003 & earlier F-150's - which use 19# injectors.

So no, the 5.4 3V is NOT limited to any 330 HP SAE Net, that is for the 1997-2003 models which come only with 19# injectors - they are limited to about 310 HP - and that's SAE Net AT THE FLYWHEEL, by the way.

I doubt you will see 230 HP at the wheels on a bone-stock 5.4 3V on an *accurate* dyno using properly corrected numbers - let alone 250 HP - we certainly never have, and we've dyno'd MANY of them. Though I *could* make a dyno say 250 Hp, it wouldn't be accurate.

The best we've even seen on any stock 5.4 3V was, if memory serves, in the 220's at the rear wheels, and the worst barely over 210 HP. They are all automatics, and all have very large driveline losses as a result - so you're generally not going to see anything like 250 HP at the wheels on any stock 5.4 3V on any "honest" dyno that I would ever believe or trust - just FYI.

If you'd like to get up to speed on all of this (and it will take some reading and some time, to be sure, so it can sometimes be boring), I would suggest spending some time with the SEARCH feature here going back over a number of my past posts if you want to get a handle on what these trucks tend to actually make stock, what we have seen in testing, what trucks have which injectors, and can support how much power, and whether it was flywheel or rear wheel (HUGE difference), etc.

Just some quick FYI for you.........
