Hi 150Lariat2000,

By your screen name, I'm assuming you have a 2000 model F-150, and that it's the top-of-the-line "Lariat" model - a very nice truck.

What's involved in tuning is a matter of who actually does the tuning, and what their skills are - the performance tuning can be delivered to the vehicle's PCM by using either a "traditional" chip, or what the vast majority of people here do, by using our custom tuning loading into a flash device that is much easier to install,l (simple plug-n-play & reversible) called the XCalibrator 2.

As for costs, we're not allowed to discuss our specific parts pricing here on the boards, so we have to kindly ask that you give us a call at our number listed below for that specific info, and we also offer a special discount to registered members of F-150 Online, like yourself. We'd be happy to go over all the other various details with you at that same time - what kinds of HP gains you can expect for which engine you have & where you are located, what types of tunes to go with (we provide a set of 3 different custom tunes set up whoever is most appropriate for your needs & how you use *your* particular vehicle), etc.

There is plenty of info you can read right here on these boards in this section on this topic - spend some time reading some of the threads and you will be surprised at just how much you learn and how quickly you pick up a lot of what we call "the basics."

Just in general - having a a proper tune done is literally the single best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement you can make to your vehicle, and you don't'; have to give up any aspect of it's operations or capabilities - that's one of the nice things about having multiple programs, and the device we recommend is simply a hand held tuner that installs in about 5 minutes by simply plugging it into your truck's OBD-II port, which is under the dash just to the right of your right knee - and it can be returned back to stock at any time, or changed to any of the other tunes it has installed any time you like. So you cna have tunes for different levels of octane, towing, all-pout performance if that is your thing, etc., etc. Flexibility & reliability are the name of the game.

This is just some quick & basic info - I recommend giving us a call to go over all of this with you in proper detail, so you'll have some direct & accurate info, and can give it some thought before making your decision, etc.

I hope this brief info helps a bit, & best of luck whatever you decide!
