PCM code

Wanna get a xcal2 and know my truck has been reflashed. Looked on PCM and around it and only found original sticker is on it. On the invoice from the dealer it says 12650D84 PCM Reprogramming. Is this the PCM code (part number) that Mike (Troyer Performance) needs.

Not sure if that # on the invoice means anything or not. This is what you need from your dealer, “Authorized Modification” sticker with the new code on it. They should have put one somewhere in the engine compartment

If there is no sticker than just give them the code on the PCM the dealership would have put a sticker under youre hood if they would have really Re flashed the PCM all they did is run diagnostic test which re sets the PCM which makes the truck fill more responsive .

Thanks,
Kyle

The original code is also posted on a sticker on the face of the PCM in the engine bay.

If he's wanting to buy a new Xcal, what difference does the reprogramming from the dealership make?

It's my understanding that it would only be of importance if he had used the Xcal for mods, initially, then the dealership reprogrammed. In that case, the Xcal would have to be modified for re-install.

Is this not correct?

You need the current PCM code to have an XCal programmed

Ah. I'm learning.

But you DON'T need it for the Micro tuner?

Is there a reason for it with one device and not with the other?

All these "searches" have got me confused. Too much litter to pick through.

The SCT micro tuners doesn’t need the specific PCM code because they are pre-loaded with all the Ford PCM codes & revisions, but that’s what makes them a generic tune verse the XCal which is code specific

searching can be a hassle; try using the advanced search
search for specific words and phrases, sometimes it helps weed out the unwanted clutter

That's an awfully expensive gamble....if the code is not correct then the programer needs further tuning calibration due to incorrect PCM code.

That equals more out-of-pocket and most importantly...LONGER wait for the custom tuning.

Get the PCM reflash from the dealer or at least verify it wasn't reflashed.

ditto

All the tunes would have to be totally redone for the correct code

About 4000 miles ago, I went to the dealer for the reflash. My invoice says;

TSB#04-21-14
Cause: 6344 042114A 0.4 Reprogrammed PCM per TSB 04-21-14
Check Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Reprogram Powertain 4511 WF
Auth Code: 5694

The truck runs great now, more responsive, shifts better, no lag at all. There is no sticker under the hood that I can find. Does this mean that my original program number is still valid or do I need to ask the dealer for a new code?

Thanks, all this is confusing to an old fart.

I'm new here too and I'm not to sure how this programing works.

I have HP tuners for my Pontiac and I can upload the factory code then modify it and then re-flash the PCM, its simple.

Why does it sound so difficult for the ford trucks?

Does the ford have PCM plug-ins like the chevys do? plug this little buggar into the OBD2 connector and it's plug-in HP?

I also have the Autotap but its diag only. I think I will get a good idea how the PCM deals work for these Fords before I get one.

Can't you guys by a PCM from one of the web based perf mod suppliers, plug it in and run? then put the stock one on the shelf in the garage for when you want to go to the stealership for warranty stuff.

Sorry, again, I'm new to Fords but I'm a pretty sharp guy, been around for a long time when it comes to GM performance products.

Thanks,
