Help! Tuning and MPG

So I've had my tuner for awhile now. I'm running the 93 performance tune from Troyer with 94 Ultra from Sunoco.

The problem is the dang thing is sooo much fun to drive, I find myself constantly droppping the hammer every time I can. Stop Lights, stop signs, in the driveway, out of parking lots, middle of the highway etc. Just gotta let 'er rip.

Needless to say my MPG is pretty bad, I think I get about 10mpg on average. And 94 Ultra is dang expensive up here (2.65gal) How can I break this addiction??!!???

Easy

Get a 10 to 12 second motorcycle. Do your drag racing with it. That way, your 15 second truck won't seem so hot. Besides, the worst mileage I've logged on my cycle is 18 mpg and that was a entire tank at over 100 mph in Montana before they posted a speed limit.

dang, I wish I could get 94 octane for $2.65...I'm paying about $2.70 for 91 octane...That's the highest I can get around here.

I know what you mean though. Somebody that pulls up beside me had better not be in a similar truck! Dodge, Nissan, Toyota, Chevy...it doesn't matter- we're going at it..

Ya......these no cure......unless you get married or somethin' like that. Went to Boston and back (Spfld) yesterday first time got up to 11.8 normally 10+. Its really great drivin' with the tune and exhaust......I'm waiting on the AF1...should be here soon. Does anybody know if you can tell any performance difference when you add the AF1 when you've got the Magna. and the TP cust. Tune? I'm pretty happy with the way it is now!!!

Hi Steve,

Funny post - you remind me of Marc Carpenter (a 2004 5.4 3V owner using Sunoco Ultra 94) and his posts about this same thing - he was laying 150 feet of rubber and sending us pictures of the long twin streaks of rubber he left behind on the road...............

I don't think there is any cure!

Although Les Phelps did have a great idea, if you're into motorcycles (especially the "crotch rockets"), you can always pick up one and go like hell and still get great MPG.

With most people, the novelty does finally wear of and driving returns back to something a bit more normal, and then the MPG comes back up - but as long as you stick your foot in it, the MPG isn't going to be high, that's for sure.

Have fun,

I'm way too old for a crotch rocket. I have a Valkyrie which puts it at the slow 12 second end, but it still serves the purpose.

I'm thinking I want one supercharged vehicle before I get geriatric. I can't decide whether to do my truck or pick up a Mustang to play with. Tough choice. The truck would be a good sleeper, but the 'stang might just pop wheelies. Never had a car that could do that.

Saw a Mustang down in Texas, years back, that had lettering at the top of the back window that read: "Heartbeat my AS#!" Always wanted to put that on one of my Fords, but I never will unless I can take all reasonable challengers.

Enjoy.

I hear you, I'm way too old, too!

And I never was really a great rider. The fastest thing I ever rode was a Suzuki GS-1100, and it was plenty wicked quick for me - it got into the high 10's with a Kerker pipe, breather, etc. on it - now I'm really dating myself.

Speaking of a 'blown bike - I always wanted a turbocharged Harley, like Sam & Dave did on that show "Shadetree Mechanic" - now that was my idea of a cruiser for someone at my rather lower level of riding skills - a nice easy cruiser with plenty of torque that I would hopefully never drop!
