Howdy, Vic.

Lots of material to go thru. Have come to a few conclusions from the input. Lots of variables to draw any definites. But it's ALL interesting and I feel I'm more knowledgable on tunes.

Thanks for asking.

BTW, I think I'm on a few members 'I' list.

Ignore.
Impotent.
Ignoramous.
Incompetent, etc.....

That's OK with me. Just as long as they realize I'll NEVER be on their "I"ntimidated list.

Hey Joey;

That's the spirit !

Yeah - I think I'm on a few lists too... but life's too short, y'know?

I refer to it as the [I]ntelligence List.

I'm having far too much fun...

As long as some of the folks here continue to have big shoulders and revel in some good-natured jousting, all is well. A certain "Supporting Vendor" comes to mind...

Take care.

Cheers!

Hey jward,

If what you are trying to determine is why is it so much better to have us do our custom tuning compared to just using the 1715, hands down it's across the board....

Meaning - you get MUCH larger power gains, much better actual improvement in performance, better driveability, usually better MPG, and vastly better shift characteristics that are much more linear, etc. There are numerous people here who have used both the 1715 AND our custom tuning on the same F-150 that they own, and have reported back their results - use the SEARCH feature to find them, it's all here - posts by people like "watsonr." Phil Kanarkowski (I forget his screen name), and so many others. For example, in Phil's case, we knocked another 4 tenths of the 1/4 mile time over the next best tuning he ever tested in his F-150 - that is a HUGE difference in sheer raw performance.

See, in the 1715, there are a few changes made in a few specific areas, and it does work well - for an inexpensive "off-the-shelf" type of unit, it's the best available. But it does not begin to compare to our in-depth custom tuning, as we are going MUCH further into the programming, optimizing *hundreds* as aspects that nobody else touches. We are in our 15th year of specializing in the F-150 platform, we've been performance tuning them longer than anyone else - period. That is why our customers get the best results. We make the host **safe & sustainable** power & performance that can be made in these vehicles, it;s just that simple.

It's really hot possible to type out all the differences here, as not only do I not have the time, but I'm also not going to give away trade secrets - many of our competitors read every word I type, just looking for any possible thing, large or small, that might help them in *their* product in some way, so that they can claim they can do everything we can do, only better, etc., etc., ad nauseam. We actually have other chipmakers that ask us for help in their products for these vehicles, for example - as well as intake kit manufacturers, several supercharger manufacturers, and the list goes on and on and on - and it's all due to our expertise on this platform, because *this* is what we do. It' simply because we have more performance-oriented R&D into the F-150 platform than anyone else - well, short of Ford Motor Company themselves.

The bottom line is, this decision is of course up to you - but if you want the best, then you'll go with our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as that is what gets the best results.

Best of luck whatever you decide my friend,

Good afternoon, Mike.

Thanks for your reply. I fully understand not wanting to get into extreme details about any of your proprietary products. And after doing much research and trying to absorb it all, some things are still a little confusing.

Perhaps if I give a specific example you could shed a tad more light.

Let's just use my truck for the example.

2003 F150 with the 5.4 2V 3.73 gears, U on TR code which I beleive to be the 4R70W trans. FX4 and says Lariat on the side(if that means anything ).

Now, with the 1715 Superchips tuner, the packaged tunes are .........

1-Super preformance for 91+ octane
2-Towing performance for 91+ octane
3-Towing performance for 87 octane

With the Xcal one can specify, or take your advice, and get a more variety of tunes. Up to 3, I believe. These could range from 87 octane up to 93 octane. Mixed with "perf" or "tow". To better suit the customers needs and/or wants. 87, 91, 93 or other combos.

My question is, if one were to order the Xcal with the same tunes, as shown above, as with the 1715, would there be any performance gains in the truck above? Round numbers will suffice. I know, I know, who would settle for that when you could get more? But really, I'd just like to know if there is a difference and what it would/could be.

I'm aware of the other enhancements with the Xcal and those could be of benefit to others, but I'm interested in the differnce in gains with the question above.

Comments?

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.

Joey
