k&n and superchip 1714 question

I currently have a k&n fipk and true dual magnaflow exhaust with the rear cats removed on my 04 f-150 supercrew. I am awaiting the arival of my new 1714 micro tuner, but I have heard alot about the k&n fipk causing a lean condition on the new 3 valve and although I have not expeienced this condition my self (that I am aware of) I was wondering what effect the 1714 might have on this condition, if any at all. I would really appreciate any feedback I can get. Thanks . Oh and I was wondering if the 1714 would adjust my in gear idle to compensate for a set of troyer underdrive pulley's. Thanks

Blake

You can’t adjust the idle with the 1714, only the custom tuners (XCal & XCal2) can do that. The 1714 can’t do anything about a lean A/F ratio condition either.

How come you’re not getting an XCal2 from Troyer Performance? Mike does the best custom tunes available for F150’s

I am a 19 year old college student who is short on cash and I can get the 1714 brand new for 100$ cheaper. I plan to eventually sell the 1714 in order to buy a troyer xcal to but for now I see the 1714 as my best option. Thanks for the input. Oh and by the way does troyer still sell the xcal1, and if so is there a significant price difference between the xcal1 and 2. Thanks

Yep, Troyer Performance still sells the original XCal. You should give them a call about pricing, and let them know you’re an f150online member because you’ll get a nice discount on the XCal or XCal2. I can’t say how much because it’s is against forum rules to discuss supporting vendors discounts

HI blakerman,

Thanks for dropping by!

No, the 1714 is not what you want to accomplish that particular task, as it cannot do anything custom like that - so it cannot help you compensate for the underdrive pulleys by raising the idle speed, etc. - that requires or custom tuning.

You know what you could do, is to give us a call and have us do a single custom program in the XCalibrator 2 for you so you can spend significantly less money, and then as finances permit, just have us add additional custom tunes for it. Or have us do 2 tunes in it. Etc - you know, some way to hold down that individual cost for you so yo can get what yo really need & want up front, and not make compromises like that.

Normally we fully populate them with 3 completely custom tunes, but for someone like you who is going to school, or who is serving overseas in the military and has a tight budget etc, we want to work with you so that you can get what will really serve you best, and at a price you can afford - so give our company a call at our number listed below, tell our staff what your screen name here is on F-150 Online, and tel them I said to put you thru to me personally, OK? I will get this worked out for you, as I want you to have the best. there's usually a way we can do that and get you the kind of tuning you need that will still really wake that truck up for you, etc.

Thanks for your post, good luck in school & hope to hear from you!

Thanks Mr. troyer I really apreciate your help. I have talked to someone at your bussiness before (she was very helpful and friendly). I just wish that I had read this a little earlier. It is a little late now because my programmer is sitting in my front seat. I can assure you though that from this point on all ofther modifications to my truck will be done trough troyer performace. Over the past few weeks it has become aparent to me that you guy's are the best in both performance, as well as customer service. I will be giving you a call about the pulley's soon. Thanks alot.

HI Blake,

If you just got that 1714 and ordered it form us, we might be able to work out a deal with you to take it back in trade so you can get into a custom tuned unit - just a thought. Sometimes we can do that, and sometimes we can't, it just depends on if it came fro us, and what kind of shape it's in, how long the customer has had it, etc. Just a thought, & thanks for your post!
