Unhappy Does XCAL read CEL's??

Hey guys, please tell me this super handy dandy Xcal also reads CEL codes, cuz my trucks DED, it cranks, starts, then dies right away, put on AF1 a week ago and have had no problems until now, also have a magnaflow SISO and a troyer 93 Tune on, I undid the Neg- Battery terminal while installing the AF1 to prevent CEL's too Already tried to undo the Neg- battery terminal again to reset the computer, no luck same thing.
UPDATE: After about an hour of waiting It starts now but has a CEL, Im afraid to drive it anywhere Any idea's?

Hi Ragged05,

Don't fret - there will soon be a trade-up program by the manufacturer that allows owners of the original XCalibrator to upgrade to the XCalibrator 2 for a reasonable cost.

I have no idea what is going on with your vehicle, but you can drop by just about any auto parts store and they will scan your vehicle for codes & tell you what they are free of charge - for example, AutoZone does that nation-wide.

There is no substitute for scanning for codes - there is no way to guess at what your problem might be, that just can't be done. You need to have the PCM scanned for codes, and that starts the diagnostic process.

What may be happening is that with the AF1 and some miles of driving & drive cycles, if it's not sealed right you can get a lean code after a period of time - say, a dozen or so drive cycles. We saw on one 2004 truck that it took 1100+ miles to get that code.

You could try putting the stock intake back on and seeing if that makes the difference - though with a scenario like yours where the truck would not even start, but after a long enough battery disconnect it finally does start, I really doubt that has anything to do with your mods - UNLESS there is perhaps a problem like the MAF connector is not plugged in correctly or some other connection is not fully secure - and that is of course just a rough guess. Take a look at the MAF sensor's connection - you know, where you had to transfer over the factory MAF (Mass Airflow) sensor from the stock intake over into the AF1's tube - and see if it's in the slot correctly, and that the connector is properly attached & secure (the red tab is locked back into place properly), etc.

Those are just some quick ideas, but from what you describe of the truck not wanting to start, it really sounds like something else is going on - now it could also be something simple like maybe you reflashed the PCM with a different program and that procedure wasn't done quite right, or the PCM just needed to be cleared afterwards to allow it to start - that does happen once in a while.

There are so many possibilities - the bottom line is, you do need to get it scanned for codes and start the diagnostic process from there.

just make sure you reprogram it back to stock first then bring it in. If they give you a hard time about the intake take it else where. the intake isnt causing it to not start. not sure what you mean as "blacklisting" but just take it in and you will be fine.
