It makes no sence, for example you would say "I need to make my timming better." Anyhow I figured out what you cave men were trying to say without looking at any of those sites because I know how a ignition system works. It should have been stated as "advancing the timing which means the spark is initated sooner". Now that statment would have taking just 10 seconds to type so what was the problem? You all are about as useful as Ashley Simpson's singing.

Cee21;
Well this poor old cave man, (who exhibits far better grammar and sentence structure than you seem to possess), is befuddled by your apparent lack of skill in interpolating the answers you seek from available facts.
Case in point: Mike wrote..." Also, you cannot say that increasing the spark advance for 93 octane will automatically guarantee a gain in fuel economy -"
From the above it's evident even to a Neanderthal like me he was indicating Adding "More" timing = *advancing* the timing. Or put another way: More = '+' ; Less = '-' , all in reference to TDC. Do you need a link defining 'TDC' too? ( I'd send you my cave-painted drawings, but the rock would be too expensive to Fedex ).
That, coupled with all the helpful links in this thread should have quickly led you to that same conclusion. Instead you insist upon being spoon fed, or are getting ridiculously hung up on the semantics.
I don't know what colour the sky is where you live, but I can assure you all the engineering students I have worked with on my planet ( and I have mentored several really bright kids ), have this innate ability.
No one is questioning your intelligence - you are doing a pretty good job so far of that yourself. I wish you well, but I sincerely hope I never have the opportunity to purchase any products designed by you.
Enough wasting my time with pocket protector-equipped snotsuckers and overly-sensitive wannabes... I gotta go find my cave-woman and get some brontosaurus burgers to eat! Me hungry!
Cheers!

CEE21,
I see one thing you have not learned is manners - or how to thank those who have spent hours typing out answers to you in the past, as I have, just for one example here.
Learn to do your own homework & stop insisting that others be at your personal beck & call to sit & type to spoon-feed you, on demand, what you are apparently too lazy to attempt to do for yourself - which is what I said before, go to your local library and check out a couple of good books.
I am NOT paid to be your personal professor, or be subject to your lack of appreciation or rudeness.
And I do have to apologize myself, I really don't mean to be rude myself, or to be short with you - but your attitude is, IMHO, just uncalled for - you know?
Please do pick up a good book or two so you'll have a good grip. By the way - if you did understand the basics of ignition systems you never would have demanded that I explain it to you and then get mad when I didn't! So obviously you went and looked something up to find out a little bit about what ignition timing meant, hence what you said in that other post griping to others about how they too, should have responded differently and you then "defining" what additional spark advance meant - far too obvious & transparent, my friend - OR - you already knew before & were just wasting my time. Whichever it is I really don't care, as it is an *excellent* example of what I'm talking about - doing your own simple homework instead of demanding that I be at your personal beck & call to sit and type out answer after answer for you on demand.
I wish you well, and good luck in your education.

Mike,
being from VA I know you know about Charlottes Auto fair, last time I went they had a bunch of the cutaway transmission models you are talking about, maybe give that a shot next April if you are still looking for one

Hi 02Sport,
OK, I need to properly understand - are you talking about an actual "cutaway" ,model, or do you mean the *visible* (I.E., "see-thru") model like I was taking about - they are 2 completely different things, of course - I'm just trying to be clear so that *I* properly understand what you're telling me about there in Charlotte...........
A "cutaway" is just that - it has exterior sections of an engine block, car, or in this case, the transmission's external case & pathways literally cut out, so that you can see the internals - whereas a *visible* model like I was talking about is not cutaway at all, but instead is a "see-thru" design - using transparent plastic models of the engine block, valve covers, or transmission case, pan, etc., so that you can see those parts in operation - but without any actual cutaway.
A cutaway wouldn't interest me, but any of the "visible" models I have always loved since I was a kid - and we'll actually use them sometimes to demonstrate things to new employees who are in training here who do not have a strong engine "internal" component background.
Thanks for your post & whatever info you can provide so I understand which you are referring to, that's very considerate of you!

Hey. no apology needed at all, I just needed to make sure that *I* understood you correctly!
I thank you very kindly for that info - now I have a specific source/locale to go looking for them, which is more than I had before - THANK YOU!

You're welcome, Charlotte auto fair has just about anything you could ever want that pertains to a vehicle, and also Mike thank you, my roomate emailed me and said my hurst shifter came in yesterday, and even though he is a dodge man, he said it is sweet and he can't wait to put it in, now if I could just find a way to have my truck shipped over here to Afghanistan I would be in business. We have a 99 Chevy 4 door, and it hit the wall the other day, I was laughing
Found the visible tranny
Hi Mike and 02sport4x4;
I apologize in advance for the blatant thread hijack, but... I Found it !!!
I was looking through my stuff ( I'm the kind of guy who throws nothing away ;-)), for something entirely unrelated and I found my 'visible' three speed + reverse manual tranny!
Now, I don't know what to do - send you guys a pix to tease you, or hold out and trade it for a Troyer Performance sticker ?? Heh, heh... choices, choices... ;-))
[When I get this image posting thing worked out - I'll pop up a pix.]
Cheers!
Vic
